BOYNTON BEACH — Louise Davidson told police she thought she hit a curb as she was leaving the Hunters Run subdivision on her way to the beauty parlor Thursday.
Instead, she hit Matthew Clark, 25, who was riding his scooter along Congress Avenue to his job at the California Pizza Kitchen in Boca Raton.
"She rolled right through the red light making the right hand turn, and either didn't look or didn't see me," said Clark, who lives in Boynton Beach. "I had no time to react and plowed right into her."
Police said that Clark was vaulted off the scooter, onto the windshield and then onto the roadway, though Clark said he doesn't remember exactly what he hit because it happened so quickly, though he said, "it was not fun."
By the time he gained his composure, the silver Toyota was gone. Clark was infuriated.
Davidson told police she thought she hit a curb and did not notice the damage to her car until she arrived at the salon, where she got her hair washed.
While Davidson was having her hair done, firefighters were transporting Clark, who had from bruises all over his body, to Bethesda Hospital.
"She said she thought she hit a curb, which I guess, if she is old and senile that's possible," said Clark. "But there was significant damage to her car. I'm sure she knew what happened and just took off. I have no problem with elderly people in general, but they should be a little more careful on the road and be honest with themselves about whether or not they should be driving."
Davidson was charged with leaving the scene of an injury cash and booked at the Palm Beach County Jail, where she quickly posted the $3,000 bail. She could not be immediately reached for comment.
Clarke has stopped driving the scooter, which he bought a month ago to save money.
"You just cant trust other people on the road," he said.
