ages 17 to 20, are sitting in my front room right now, all noodling around on acoustic guitars. We've had Led Zepplin, the Doors, and much fabulous jazz.

it's good to remember what's really important on a Saturday afternoon. :)

Can they play Inna Gadda da Vida for me?

Very cool. Is your daughter appropriately mooney eyed? :)

I think I got that right...

haha, I wonder! I haven't asked them for "Free Bird" either.

She thinks of these guys as "Little Brother's Friends," and treats them with barely-disguised scorn. :D

But the tension relief between my shoulderblades is miraculous.

Please smack the first one to attempt the opening to "Stairway to Heaven." ;)
I've gotten so many of the obscure ones, thank goodness!

One of these young men is a genuine prodigy-- the only jazz guitarist accepted into the music dept of the L.A. highschool for performing arts for his year. They only take two at any time.

I'm getting lots of Django Rineheardt and things where I say; "Who is that?" and he says; "I wrote it.":rose:

Doesn't talent just amaze the heck out of you? I went over to the sixth grade teacher who's doing the math rotation this year and asked her who the top kid was. Who does it turn out to be? Our resident genius who is, by age and enrollment, a fourth grader! And the little dickens can sing, too, really sing.

Noodling. Love it.

I don't play (just can't move my fingers fast enough and have absolutely no idea about progression) but I  plugging one of the lads' guitars in and playing with the effects pedal. (Bobby Shaftoe on Slayer setting)

I roadied him to a gig last year and while we were setting up he showed me a simple bass line to play while he noodled.

Then I begged him to let me have a go so we swapped and he showed me a scale way up the neck near the finger board which could be played in virtually any order and still sound pretty decent.

An hour and a half of noodling later and the barman told us the pub was closed for the afternoon and could we please go home now.

I remember those days, with great nostalgia:

Saturday mornings

One of the very first threads I ever posted, over 4 1/2 years ago.

*sigh*.

Oh, I'm sorry I missed!

:)

I spent Saturday morning with twelve of my oh-so-large family (believe it or not, it was only a small portion of the whole. My mother has twenty grandchildren, and twenty-one great grandchildren so far). It was chaos, but so much fun. I miss them already. :(
