Making Your Own Collar

Has any one ever made there own collar and if so how did you do it and what materials did you use? I’m interested in getting creative and making my own collar but I’m not sure where to start. Anyone have any ideas to get the creative juices going?

When I was 12 at sleep-away camp I took a leather working class and, feeling awfully hardcore (what with just having gotten into punk), I made myself a black dog collar out of some cheap suede and put some metal spikes around it. I wore that thing every day for about a year. Then one day my dad said to me, "you know, some people might take that collar to mean something that you don't think it means." and I had no idea what he was talking about but I stopped wearing it anyway.

I recently found it in my room and had a good chuckle.

Aaaaanyway, that really doesn't answer any of your questions. Haha sorry. But hey, I did make my own collar once!

You could make one with good quality wire. You can get gold and sterling and platinum wire. Netzach makes her own jewelry, she might be able to direct you to sites that have good quality wire and stuff.

The wire suggestion is a good one if you want some plausible deniability and you can find some really lovely books on it. I'm not a traditional wireworker, but "viking knit" I always thought would be a great collar.

likewise chainmaille has some stitches that aren't too too renfaire, and if you like that kind of thing, that's easily done.

I have been wondering where to get leather working supplies. All them fancy toys in shops, well, they aren't fancy enough for me. I'm too much of a perfectionist so before I invest I want to know that I can made the required alterations.

If I was to put effort into it, I think I would first look for a leather belt store, or hat, shoe, etc store. I'm sure they got something available.

Master made my day collar (http://forum.literotica.com/showpost.php?p=27045346&postcount=1465 ) as well as what i call my active collar. the active collar is a more solid braid with two hand charms hanging from it. between the hand charms is a heart charm with a pawprint on it for my nickname. he also made viv and i a set of anklets, but mine broke so he made me a new one in a different style.

As MIS mentioned, I made day collars for both of my gals from hemp (plus sterling beads). Hemp is inexpensive and simple to work with. The downside is that it is only so durable, especially the "jewelry grade" stuff, as shows from her anklet breaking. So don't expect it to last forever. In part, I made the "active collar" as a back-up should the day collar break.

Netz, the viking weave does sound like a killer idea. I've thought about making collars from silver wire in something like that. Never could really figure out how to do it though.

I made one out of chainmaile. Though some of it was out of aluminum and kept stretching out on me. (the colors were aluminum). Made me pretty sad. Was hoping there was enough stainless to not have it do that, guess not... oh well, least I know how to fix it for next time I make one. It was really nice though the only way it would come on or off was by a lock which only he had a key to.

I wanted something that I could wear all the time and not have to worry about taking it off do something. Like take a shower. Leather doesn't do to well in water. I have plently of stainless steel wire, sadly don't have the size I would need. /sigh... Oh well.. maybe I'll make it for my wedding present to him. When that day comes.

Anyway yes, I made my own collar and plan on making a new and improved one. I feel it is better to make your own because it personalizes it and you can make what you want instead of trying to find it in a store and have a good chance that someone else will have that same collar.

And now my collar is a tattoo. I still plan on making that chanmail again. But the tattoo collar I don't have to worry about it breaking or anything. And it is extremly unique.
