LGBTQIA+ Daily Vibe II

Greetings,

I typically do not wander far from my usual haunt in the Playground, but today, as I was mindlessly browsing around, I thought to check out this thread, which escaped me entirely. Not difficult, given the swarm to waddle about.

My visits to the general LGBTQIA+ forum have been very few and far between. The atmosphere doesn't feel quite right to me on the account of... all of it.

So, here I am, dipping my toes into the waters of this seemingly calm and collected thread, much more akin to my personal tastes. I hope to discover some engaging conversations.

I reckon I have some catching up to do if for some discussing.
Welcome
and
I know what you mean

I guess I too forgot to finish that on my last posting, edit??? nah....I'll do it next time :ROFLMAO:
anyways, nice to see new folk on the vibe thread @_valkyrie_
I didn't invent the sign off thing, but inherited it from the original Vibe format. Out of respect for the old queer hipsters, I kept it. Drive-by postings are frequent and just fine too.

Valkyrie - you've been around Lit as long as me, so you'll remember there were more fun threads in LGBTQIA+. There was a crowd of good folk who were such a laugh. Do you remember Stella Omega? They were pretty fierce, but got fed up of all of it and disappeared off to Fetlife.

There's plenty room on the Vibe picnic blanket and we put jars of sugar water at each corner to catch the bugs.

Mood: It's morning, with silvery light and I'm sleepy still
Listening to: the morning drone of workers
Wearing: Fleece top

I do remember them! Despite what my longevity number here states, I only became more active some odd years ago. I do have the need for considerable hiatus, once in a while. I actually wondered where had they gone, since they didn't show up anymore.

I didn’t personally interact with Stella (if my memory serves me right), but I do recall the posts and/or discussion sparked back then and how quick-witted they were, whether on a funny streak or dissing out numbskulls. I also didn't actively followed them around, but I did peruse their posts on purpose, occasionally because I found them inspiring.

I like the sign off thing, because it further humanizes each poster and reminds us that people are posting from all over the world.

Mood: Hangin' in there
Listening to: Jesse Welles
Wearing: Not much [still hot weather in the desert- I adapt to my environment rather than expecting it to adapt to me]

I've never done it before. I'll do it now:

Mood: quiet, contemplative, but always in the background: fear, that emanates from those who would be king.
Listening to: tha friggin noisy refrigerator
Wearing: work pants and flannel (was cold here this morning)

How's everyone doing?
These are perilous times for us queer folks. I've felt unsettled for a couple of weeks now, and of course the events of these past few days have not helped.

It hasn't been easy to find a calm, peaceful mindset as I've read up on the reactions after what has gone down in Utah.
Today tho, I took advantage of the chilly but not rainy weather and found a place to sit / ponder in the country. For me, that helps.
I hope y'all have somewhere you can center yourselves too.
Hugs 🫂

Wearing: fleece an tights
Listening to: quiet in this corner of the world
Mood: happy/ introspective/ deeply appreciative of where I am
Drinking: hot green tea 😊

I’m afraid I’m doing what I need to do to manage my mental health. I ignore anything I have no power to change and focus on smaller things. I applaud all the people in the uk who’ve been arrested for protesting against genocide but being trans makes me a juicier target for authorities and I don’t want to make their job easier.
So
I’m currently having a stare-down with a sheep outside the window 😉 The weather is grey and wet but it promises to be windy later too!! The electrics in our accommodation are all dodgy so if I had some tools I could fix the place up 🤣

Forecast for tomorrow is better 👍

Mood: stubbornly optimistic
Wearing: barely enough ( fleeces)
Listening to: wolf Alice

It’s got a microwave that crackles 😯
Some of the sockets don’t work
The gas oven doesn’t work
All the home comforts 🤣
And sheep! 🐑
I’m fine with electrics 👍 apart from lithium batteries which frighten me!
The rain is being driven hard by the wind today but tomorrow looks better. There’s research to do!
Mood: remarkably good
Wearing: warm stuff tho it’s not too cold
Listening to: Ammonite film 🍿

Ummm, is this a way old home? And your oven doesn't work! I def couldn't handle that....love my baking time.
Sheep? Are you living on a farm? I wander around out here with bears an moose close by but I think I'd be wary of sheep an farm animals in general.
Once as a little kid I was chased around by a horse and it must have left an impression on me....
Anyways, stay warm and dry! Clouds are back here now too, think rain is on the way ☔

Listening to: come to me, Bjork
Wearing: my fav wrap skirt, an fleecy goodness
Mood: happy, bordering on 🤪

I went to a very different community gathering this weekend - a very eclectic space but still cis/het, mostly because the octogenarian host is just an old dog who doesn’t have the head space for new tricks. 🙄

I’ve been going to these gatherings for over twenty years and they have always had great food and been fun and inspiring. There’s a stage where a variety of performances happened; modern dance, belly dancing, spoken word… I was asked to play music along with half a dozen other musicians and had a great time except for one part.

There was a “special” performance where a bunch of straight guys lampooned as gay lap dancers for the host. It was intended as funny. Some of the dancers were being Chip’n Dales while others were in absurd drag. Most of the people were laughing but it rubbed me the wrong way.

To me it felt disrespectful and stigmatizing. It felt tragic that the parody of crossing gender boundaries was celebrated but it wasn’t a welcome space for real non-cis/het expression. I kind of spun out for a bit until I settled back to playing music with other folks.

I’m definitely more at home in queer spaces.

Getting started with a busy work day of helping people with their off-grid power systems. Lots of Lithium batteries, inverters, generators, solar panels… 😉
(If you have any technical battery questions feel free to hit me up.)

Putting on my carharts and work boots, listening to ‘Under the Sea’ from The Little Mermaid as it plays in my head on endless repeat. 😅

Sodium ion batteries!!! They’re the less toxic future. I worked on the development of them and for fixed installations they are really good. They don’t have the charge density of lithium but you can hammer a nail threw them and keep working 🤪

Yeah, the gay parody thing… Ive never got my head round the whole RuPaul drag show. Maybe it’s my autie brain but it’s not cool.

Impressed to hear you were playing along

Their inner desires are too threatening to them so they have to demonize and stigmatize it. Sad really.

Yeah. I could see some of the straight guys in drag were really enjoying themselves. Some didn’t change out of ‘costume’ for the rest of the night and were garnering attention for it - many women saying, “Now those are real men!” and playing with objectifying them in a ironic manner. 🙄

Sodium ion? Aquacious or dry cell?
I’ve been replacing (literally) tons of Aquacious Sodium ion batteries. They didn’t perform as promised and put the company Aquion out of business due to irate customers.

I primarily deal with Lithium Iron Phosphate batteries: much safer and non-toxic compared to Lithium Cobalt but they also have a fairly high energy and power density. I’m looking forward to solid state batteries being readily available.

I’m not into the Ru Paul scene either, though I have seen a few very impressive burlesque drag performers whose voices could pull a crowd, dressed up or not. There’s a fine line between campy and absurd.

I’ve been playing music for over thirty five years. I usually got pulled into bands because I could sing but my recent diagnosis and my new perspective of having ADHD has helped me learn to focus and let my guitar playing flow. I’ve gone from trying not to get in the way to being pro level. I’m suddenly being asked to gig more than ever. 😎

Hiya @stickygirl and all you vibers out there, been a while since I stuck my head in the thread, but festival season is over and its time to do the laundry and pack everything away till next year.
mood: sad
wearing: red satin dressing gown
music: Fuckin Jane by The Cars That Ate Paris

You did well to enjoy yourself in spite of this. I (septegenarian+ that I am) would have been furious.

Aquacious? No bruv these use various compound, such carbon to produce cath /anode layers. Quite a few car battery manufacturers are including lithium and sodium tech.
Lithium mining of any kind is polluting quite apart from the need for nickel or cobalt. I hope that in fifty years kids will dropjaw that we used lithium- a bit like asbestos.
Anyhow I don’t work there anymore so … I’ve got lithium in my phone for sure
