During the early 1980's I lived and worked in downtown San Jose, California. The area was engulfed by Vietnamese war refugees. Most were desperately poor. They were also good people. They took any job they could find and obeyed the law. Vietnamese teenagers did not harass their teachers. They tried to learn, although many could barely speak English. Vietnamese teenagers did not spend their nights getting into trouble. They did their homework. I often got off work at 10:00 pm, and walked two miles to get to my apartment. I walked through what had become a largely Vietnamese neighborhood and was perfectly safe.

Would I have been safe walking through a black neighborhood that late? Would a black person have been safe? Ask Jesse Jackson.

The biggest loss of wealth, at the time, in world history caused by the corruption (theft) of white men on Wall Street. Exacerbated by tariffs. Duplicated again and again for the past 90 years. Calls for increased regulation always met with lessening that placed the economy in position for a yet another repeat. Punishment amounting to a slap on the wrist. Mostly these stores are being closed down by wholesale shoplifting and other crime by their "clientele."

Automated stores are the answer - order online or from a kiosk. Pay online. Your order is delivered....or you can come and pick it up from order pickup.

Of course there are issues - illteracy is one and online access is another. But bullet and assault-proof kiosks in an automated kiosk (no humans) where your order is delivered to you should be able to deal with that.

As for illiteracy, images and audio interaction.... Now you might not have a debit or credit card but the clientele are mostly on EBT anyhow - and doing it this way means we can cut all the unhealthy and high sugar foods out of their diets too. NO junk food.

This is where supermarket shopping is going folks. One of my granddads is in this business and the big chains are all going in this direction. It cuts shoplifting to zero, it cuts their personnel costs big time. They're all closing down stores and putting fulfillment centers like this in. No cash issues, it's all paid for online, no theft, they can put the fulfillment centers in civilized zones where staff are not at risk,

For food desert areas where theft means you cannot deliver, you simply have secure pickup depots - deliveries made by Brinks armored trucks and placed in storage lockers that only the ordering customer can access. If crime is a major issue, and peoples food is being stolen from them after they pick it up, then the police can guard them. Of course if I was the supermarket, I'd have the local community pay for the pickup stations and security - it's their behavior that causes the issue to start with.

And if EBT cards are not permitted to pay for any high-sugar and additive content items, all that hyper high-sugar-and junk-food-driven behavior should be moderated too.

He is not one of the greatest living black Americans by any measure. He's trash and taking him seriously is a waste of perfectly good energy.
