Comments That Make Your Day

Two of the best comments I've gotten are on my story Another Man's Trophy Wife in LW.

"Have read a bunch of stories. Read a few that I thought were pretty well written, but "Big-Cane-Sugar" (giggle) is an authentic story-teller, and that's what a good writer does: tells stories. Good opening. Nice flow to peak. Great ending."

That felt really, really good. But the best comment I've ever received concluded with:

"I can't help but think this was an actual occurrence."

Damn, I felt Sarah was crashing harder than Samantha.

New comment on Love is a Place part 2, which itself is pleasing as it's 15 months old now, and it's lovely when new readers find older stories. But more than that I love how this comment is the opposite of the norm: Samantha is neurodivergent and a very atypical romantic character. The vast majority of comments focus on her and the challenges she faces; very few acknowledge how hard things are for Sarah, a comparatively ordinary woman. It's wonderful to see some readers recognise the struggles Sarah faces in loving somebody like Samantha.

Private (and very nice) comment from Anon:

"Nice Nude Day contest story! I loved the incorporation of the music, with all of its detail. Very well thought and written. I have traveled overseas with a choir to an international competition on a couple occasions. Your descriptions of the experience, including the rehearsal and prep, are pretty accurate. I didn’t experience the sex on my trips! But those portions were excellent, too! Well done."

I can't respond directly to them, but in case they are ever reading here:
a) there is a reason why the descriptions of the experience were fairly accurate.
b) it's okay that the sex didn't happen on your trip. In general terms, it's the difference between fiction and non-fiction. I do have a stranger-than-fiction story from a), but I won't share that one ;)

About a year ago, on my story, "The Interview," someone anonymously commented, "Not very sexy but probably the best writing on the site" -- this is one of my favorite things that anyone has ever said about me :)

So, @lovecraft68 asked on the Milestones thread whether my prolific commenting helped attract readers. And, while it's not why I comment so much (I comment because my parents raised me to have good manners and always thank people) but two comments today clearly demonstrate that it does:

On I have seen love from new writer @orange_grove :
I just looked at your profile after you left the very kind comment on my story yesterday and I’m glad that I did. I started in the order you recommended and this is fantastic! The dialogue between the friends is really realistic and engaging. I can see where the see/touch/made progression is going and that’s think that’s a really nice / clever idea for a trilogy of short stories.

I really appreciate you leaving such a thoughtful and detailed comment on my story.

And on Eve & Lucy, from another new writer @BeneathHerBraid (who is doing herself a disservice):

Wow! Reading this made me feel two things at once — wildly inspired and slightly despairing. Because damn, you can write. The way you slip between humour, eroticism, emotional depth, and inner monologue so fluidly — it’s just masterful. Amanda’s voice is so alive I swear I could hear her in my head, and that audition scene? Hilarious, brave, sharp. And then the shift into tenderness with Carrie — it was hot, yes, but also vulnerable and real. You wrote sex with feeling and narrative purpose, which is so hard!

Reading this makes me feel like I’m playing with finger paints while you’re working in oils and light. Thank you for setting the bar higher — and for reminding me why I love stories like this. Can’t wait to get into the rest of it!

Lovely comments both, making me smile and spreading good karma all around.

If you like Lesbian stories, I'd recommend checking out both authors:

Thanks very much for the links to their profiles. I love that tagline from @BeneathHerBraid on her first story: 'Is it a lesbian love story? Or is it just a love story?'.

From Devilboby:

I enjoyed your story , well written good language . Believable

Hard to believe a story posted over 3 years ago still gets interest (at least for me). I'm particularly pleased Devilboby found it believable.

I'm (still) enjoying hearing about the musical resonances readers are getting from 'Letting the Sunshine In'. Most of them, anyway :)

Anonymous:
Sang Lux Aurumque this last Christmas with a group I'm in, absolutely beautiful song. As someone with choir experience (tenor), this nailed it, even the forgotten altos. Loved it.

Anonymous:
Beautiful writing, great musical interjections, perfect proof reading. Great story line, well told with good characters. Will go far.

Anonymous:
Helped me enjoy remembering sex on the beach at an international choral event 50 years ago thus week.

Twisted Pair:
Drudgery. If I wanted a music appreciation lesson I wouldn't have come here.

Paiger123:
I loved it! So playful and thoroughly written characters. (I appreciated the music appreciation lesson- it lends credibility to the author’s knowledge of the subject matter.)

iwatchus:
I was afraid of the music content for about half a page. But this was spectacular, including the handling of the music. It doesn't hurt that I am a big fan of Hair. But hearing that her father was born when the Fifth of Fifth was released made me feel old -- I remember going to that concert.

Anonymous:
Twists, turns, ups, downs, in the end everything came together in the Finale. 5*! I am an amateur musician, have played Ticheli, played Whitaker, watched and played Hair, but never imagined them being all together in the same story. Bravo!

I've received some really nice comments on my new story, Vocational Awe! I was a little worried about trying to break into the Lesbian Sex category but so far, so good.

The comment that made me smile the most was from @Eosphorus ...
There is so much to love about this I don’t know where to begin. To start, I’d like to echo Actingup by saying that the paragraph defending the mission of public libraries was my favorite also. It’s an issue I care deeply about.

I love the little bits of humor/satire you sprinkle in. “Flat Earth Science,” for example and your unique restaurant concepts. I also respect the way every subplot was weaved together into a happy, believable ending. I always finish your stories feeling smarter and uplifted. I also always learn something new.

@Cagivagurl didn't like the term I used to describe a band though, and I mean... fair enough!

"The Beth's." A power pop band.... really???

I love the Beth's, and have seen them live on numerous occasions...

Power Pop, is not a description that fits....

Alternative, folky, Indie filled with cleverly worded rich intriguing lyrics...

I'm not sure what she thought of the rest of the story, but hopefully she liked it 😅

Apologies for the comment...
I'm a huge fan of the Beth's...
I should have sent that comment as a DM, not a public comment...
It came out as very confronting, which wasn't my intent. It was supposed to sound funny...
Delete the comment....
I apologise...

Absolutely no need to apologize! I was amused, not upset 😍

It's easy to get mad at people on the internet, and difficult to assume good intentions... There are enough grudges with deep roots on AH, I don't need to grow new ones 🤣
I came here to see a good fight, and instead there are attractive people in a hot tub throwing mashmallows at each other. I don't know what the Internet is coming to.

I was admiring you, not dishing you, sweetums.
Being called sweetums by you makes me feel some kind of way😳

Beat it, we're talking about music from the last five years 😁😁
