Women of Lit: A Safe Place To Share

I’m so sorry. Nobody deserves to walk a road like that. Do whatever it takes to get yourself and your daughter through this patch of Hell in one piece.

A big hug from a random person who cares.❤️
Thank you, she's started treatment and they are positive they'll be able to eradicate the mass. I would not wish this on my worst enemies.

I don't have kids and can only imagine how frightening that must be. I don't know if the following will be uplifting, but when I was in grade school and middle school, I lived in Memphis, TN, where St. Jude's Children's Hospital is. One of my classmates was out every Friday to go to St. Jude's because he had Leukemia. He has now been in remission for ten years, got married a couple of years ago, and is now expecting his first child.

That is great, I'm glad he's making it, nowadays cancer can be beaten back, especially if they catch it in time. Thank you there is always hope.

From the parts of my heart that avoided the abyss,
I'm glad to see this thread still exists.
Offering safety & fellowship is all that I wanted,
Because a path to peaceful common ground should never be shunted.
I hope each of you knows that you're beautifully crafted,
And that's how you know foolish, rude talk is simply unfounded.
Resilient, unashamed, & spunky — this thread has done more than survived,
But with input from all of you, Women of Lit has dared to thrive.

I found a video today and wondered where to post the link, because the lecture covers a range of topics from LGBT to Women's rights and how these things are being eroded. The speaker is Sandi Tosvig, who comes from Denmark but is a well known entertainer in the UK. I found it difficult to pause - she speaks so well.

Question: I now have pretty definitive proof that someone I only ever see in the women’s spaces on Lit Chat is using stolen influencer photos. The whole profile reads like wish fulfillment so I’m not 100% that this is catfishing… it could be some woman’s fantasy account… but they just started making noises about how they too opened their relationship (in the most FABULOUS and EXTRAVAGANT way of course) and hinting that we lived close enough to meet.

How aggressively do I call this out?

Do you think they truly know where you live? Because that is scary. I mean, surely they don’t know your address, but I have heard of that happening. If it was me, I would at least report it to the Mods. If you decide to call them out, be conscious of the chat and forum rules. You don’t need to get yourself banned.

Oh it's not that; they advertise as being in a certain city and I mentioned being a few train hours ride away from said city. It's more the "I know this person is using fake photos and that brings everything else in their already over the top profile into greater question, including their gender"

Yeah, that's one of my concerns. There aren't any rules about people doing cross-gender identification here (just only have one profile per person), and certainly not any about your profile in any way conforming to reality (which would be a bummer) but the confluence of intimation of meeting plus stolen pics is worrisome.

Have you used google images to do a reverse search? If they’re clever of course they’ll use generic photos.

You can start to get a feeling something is out of whack if you read their posts. I had one several years ago that took more than a comfortable interest in me, because I’m trans. I think they’re still here after I iggied them.

As for calling them out… it depends. If they’re a dude playing at girlie that’s one thing, but taking people into confidence and pming them is another. I never look at Lit Chat - not my thing

Oh they have some instagram influencer they pull from; I have no idea how popular she is.

With this one the suspicion started with it all being too good to be true. I get wanting to fantasize your life but this was lifestyle porn.

It was all a chat message, and this isn't the first time we've PMs in chat - it's much more common there than on the forum side. And I don't KNOW it's a guy. That's the most likely, but it's not certain. It could just be a woman's jilling fantasy and I don't want to disrupt that.

I didn't know Google Image search would find people. I've tried a few times and it always says results for people are limited. Is there some trick I'm not aware of?

Share with me and I’ll alert Laurel. Even though it happens all the time, it is absolutely against the rules to post stolen pics here. The woman being posted here without permission has a right to not have her pics here.

No trick. It can just usually find the original of an image if it exists publicly online. It can't do face recognition or anything like that, though.

tbh it used to be better at finding faces/people but it's primary function now seems to be to identify clothing and products, so you know where to buy. That's not entirely unwelcome though - who hasn't seen a jacket and wondered where it came from?!

In Google, open the Images page; drag the image into the box or paste the image http// link
