I think gender conflicted minors should be treated with respect. Studies show that the mental health of trans kids is closely related to whether their identity is honored by their peers and parents.

The main reason gender diverse people have mental health problems is because they have to deal with social derision, not because of their personality or presentation.

The first trans person I knew who killed himself did it because of being harassed. He didn’t choose to be trans. He knew it was his truth every bit as strongly as some people claim to believe in a creator.

Here's the reality most people don't see or understand; there are idiots out there who are insecure in themselves and that insecurity manifests in their public actions. What this means is that they feel challenged by others who are "different" and this comes out as hostility, anger, and violence.

For small men this is called a Napoleon Complex and they are often aggressive toward others whom they perceive as 'better men' than they know themselves to be. For straight men who might not be so secure in their male self, this often translates into gay bashing/violence.

We, as a society, need to do a better job of educating these types of personalities.
