The United States Constitution clearly says the “Times, Places and Manner of holding Elections … shall be prescribed in each State by the Legislature thereof.

Congress has a role, in that the Constitution says it can “make or alter such Regulations.”

But there is no role for the president.

Until today.

Today, Donald "Taco" Trump declared mail-in voting to be an existential threat to democracy. Therefore, he will issue one of his famous "big government" Executive Orders outlawing mail-in ballots.

Trump isn’t saying that Congress should outlaw mail-in voting. Instead, he’s demanding the states “must” get rid of them because he is the President and they are compelled to follow the President's directives.

He has determined that this is “FOR THE GOOD OF THE COUNTRY.”

The Usual Suspects will be along shortly to explain they are against "States Rights", they have ALWAYS been against "States Rights" and anyone who says differently is a God Damned Liar.

Watch out for this - an old tactic of the shithead, Trump - he PRETENDS he wants to get rid of mail-in ballots AND VOTING machines but all he wants to do is get rid of mail-in ballots because the voting machines have already been hacked & rigged  in the swing states, favouring him.

He knows that the mail in ballots can't be rigged & always favour the Dems

Old people like mail-in ballots. Donnie hates his own crotchety old MAGAs.
Mail-in voting has been a mainstay of Republican victories for many years.
Then two independent things happened to upset the Republican gravy train:
Oregon and Covid.

Oregon decided to no longer limit ballots to the "Greatest Generation" and increasingly housebound aging Boomers (like @Rebel5soul , @BabyBoomer50s, @HisArpy and @Justplainjeff ), instead pro-actively issuing a ballot to every voter of legal age. Oregon has led the entire United States in voting participation ever since.

Unfortunately for Republicans, Oregon's mail-in ballot opened the floodgates to demographics not inclined to support swastikas and jackboots: Women, Homosexuals, Native Spanish speakers and Negroes. This represented an existential threat to Democracy, as it made the entire state amenable to Democrats.

Oregon stood as an outlier with mail-in voting until President Taco Trump botched the Covid pandemic response in the 2020 election cycle. Many states (even here in TEXAS!) experimented with mail-in voting to avoid the transmission of the Covid virus and many Americans became enamored with just how easy it was to vote!

Taco Trump lost in 2020, so naturally he blamed......mail-in voting. Ergo, it MUST BE BANNED!

Back in the 1950s people (other than white geriatrics) stood in line for hours to vote at a precinct usually on a Tuesday. Taco Trump wants a return to those halcyon days of de facto voter suppression.

Trivia: Voting has been held on Tuesdays historically because it was the easiest day of the week for tiny family farmers to hitch up the mule and wander into town to vote. Those days have been over for over a century now, but the tradition remains. Voting on a weekend day, which 80% of Americans have off, would make perfect sense.

"Perfect Sense", of course, is also anathema to the Republican Party.

And, if the MAGAts can't successfully rig the 2026 election, they will "postpone" it due to a "national emergency".
Maybe the Republicans could make up something like a false Russian collusion narrative. :)

Trump is a dangerous man. Think of how much more dangerous he would be if he had over 60% popularity.

Can someone look up whether this was part of the 2025 Manifesto??
Is TRUMP off script??
Do "they" have any sort of control over him?
SURE he can get the states to do anything he wants, because the EXECUTIVE controls the pursestrings.

Without congressional legislation, Trump cannot outlaw voting machines or mail-in voting. The President does have authority over enforcing federal election law, but not in the way the left or the media often spin it. Under the Constitution’s Take Care Clause, the President must ensure federal laws are faithfully executed, which means using the Department of Justice to enforce the Voting Rights Act, prosecute voter intimidation and fraud, and hold election officials accountable when they break federal rules. What the President cannot do is unilaterally change election procedures—that power rests with Congress and the states. In short, the President’s role is enforcement, not rewriting the law.

How are ICE supposed to arrest people who might vote the wrong way if their votes are mailed in?
