On the one hand, I get this.

On the other hand, I lost my virginity at 19 to a 53 year old woman and loved every single minute of it. Now, obviously it's a little bit different dynamic when it's a younger guy/older woman vs younger woman/older man. There's more of an inherent squick factor in the latter, I think. Probably due to all the times that dynamic has undoubtedly been abused over the years. But still.

So, yeah. Complex issues without simple answers.

I so respect that your experience and my opinion are not the same. I also appreciate you offering your own experience and opening dialog. It is a complex topic and I will try to further articulate my thoughts.

This came up for me for a couple of reasons. First, age gap is a common theme and really quite popular and while it is not my thing I don't think there is anything wrong with legally consenting adults having a sexual relationship. It is hard to see the number of men that are all in when a young woman(if they are not catfish) comes on here playing up being barely legal. I don't understand the appeal nevermind the fetishization.

I have personal experience with age gap relationships. They include a naive girl being manipulated. I thought I understood and had a handle on the situation but the power dynamic was real and it wasn't until I was older that I realized how toxic it was. This undoubtedly plays into my responses.

Additionally, I don't think there is any way that as a 52 year old mother I couid view sex with someone the same age or younger than my children as anything other than predatory. I can hear and believe that for you that was not the case.

Lastly, on Lit you don't tend to see older women fawning over younger men as often but that may just be due to sheer numbers and not because women don't do it.
It probably doesn't make it any better but I would feel the same way regardless of the gender.

Older Litsters that go gaga over barely 18-year-olds. I know they are legal and I try not to yuck a yum but as a parent with kids aged 20, 22 and 25 I find it disturbing.

We went to a strip club last week. They were SO young. They were cute but I couldn't help think they might be my kids ages. Getting old really sucks.

I totally get it, and that's completely fair. For what it's worth, I don't remotely disagree with your premise. At 42, I absolutely find myself hitting that area where there is just a place where a potential partner is too young to even be considered. In my mid 30's I flirted with a then 19 year old and just felt incredibly wrong, that was kind of the clue for me that I'd aged out of that demographic, right?

And I respect your perspective, particularly given your own experiences with the matter. I think the risk that younger partners are taken advantage of, or even that they feel taken advantage of, is something that people absolutely need to consider when they think about such matters.
