Tariffs announced on Canada, China, & Mexico goods

The stock markets are tanking again today, so Trump just announced he’s “pausing” some tariffs on Mexico.

Doddering Donnie is totally spineless. The slightest pushback from Wall Street causes him to abandon the core policies of his campaign. 😆
We are already slipping past the tipping point. Trump's endless cycle of bluffing and pausing has already created a crisis of uncertainty in the world markets. This fool is currently telling our closest trading partners (through a naive young press secretary) to move all their manufacturing to the USA within one month or face the Tooth Fairy's tariffs. In other words, another obvious bluff.

The USA is now headed toward a major economic crash, not just a mild recession but a major crash. World investors recognize that this President has no grasp whatsoever of international economics. The markets fear uncertainty, and Trump has gone way beyond uncertainty and into the realm of chaos, all based on his personal resentments and his belief in Tooth Fairy economics.

Take measures to weather out the storm to come, which will involve the Trump declaring martial law in response to the panic he is creating. Federal insurance on savings will mean nothing during the next run on American banks. There simply will not be sufficient assets remaining to backstop that insurance.

These on and off tariffs brought to mind Donovan's single First There Is A Mountain.
Reworked as First there is a tariff, then there isn't,then there is.

That’ll a good article. It explains that Trump complains about Canadian tariffs on dairy and lumber, but he negotiated and signed the trade agreement that includes those tariffs.

I guess Doddering Donnie is embarrassed by his deal making failure. 😆

MAGAs, of course, will make excuses for Donnie’s mental incompetence.

Our economic position is obviously not ruined and our growth is not stunted. 😄

And anything Mexico and Canada have been doing in trade has been the result of a trade deal signed by … Trump. He pretended to “tear up” NAFTA and then just gave it a new name. He is a stable genius.
More doesn't know shit about economics. His policies are going to hit the hardest on the people that voted for him. Guess they had it coming.

Is that what this is about? They won't do it -- labor is too expensive here. That is why almost the whole American manufacturing sector has been offshored to countries where labor is cheaper.

Trump doubled tariffs on Canadian metals today, because he always acts like a petulant 4-year old. 😄

President Donald Trump said on Tuesday he has instructed his commerce secretary to add an additional 25% tariff on all steel and aluminum coming into the United States from Canada, bringing the total tariff on those products to 50%.

lol, Well the price of everything will shoot up. The US uses around 4.3 million metric tons of Aluminium and imports 4.1 million metric tons. Most of that from Canada....Guess Ford pissed him off with the Electrical tariff's. Quebec is the largest exporter of both Aluminium and Electricity to the US. Do you think Legault will not follow suit like Ford did?

This is a war, one that Trump can win, but it will wreck the US economy. Canada is ready to wreck ours to wreck yours. Is Trump ready to face the music for doing this?

Der Pumpkinhead Führer is big mad today.

He and his crack team evidently hadn't realized that a retaliatory Canadian 25% tariff on electricity (or "electricity" in quotes as Carrot Caligula calls it) will immediately impact most of new england states and michigan as well. This is a real concern, tariffs were supposed to be easy-peasy!

And evidently Wisconsin farmers are screaming about the yuge Canadian tariffs on their dairy products. So Trump announces he's upping the tariffs on steel and aluminum immediately and will put a 'permanent' tariff on Canadian auto imports until all Canadian auto plants are out of business.

oh, and also he's demanding that Canada become a vessel state of the United States. After all, Austria gave up national sovereignity to Germany back in the day, right? Because they spoke the same language (Trump WILL allow "o Canada" to continue to be played at hockey games).

I'm waiting for the guy in Ontario who said he'd pull the plug on all electricity exported to the US "with a smile on my face" if Trrump escalated his trade war.

You do know that yes there is a 250% tarriff on dairy.

But there is a threshold that needs to be surpassed in US sales prior to it being applied.
Currently in 2024 the US dairy imported 1.06 billion worth of produce duty free. While Canada exported 290 million. In fact, neither Canada nor the US hit the numbers which are the ceiling before the tariff apply.

This was a compromise made to allow freer dairy access to the Canadian market from the US. Which came about when Quebec was allowed access to the EU market in another trade agreement made between Canada and the EU. Trump agreed to these terms in NAFTA 2, as he said the best damn trade deal ever....

Homeland Security announced today that Canadians who intend to stay in the USA more than 30 days must fill out a registration request and submit to fingerprinting.

Fuck them snowbirds, eh?

Ratcheting up the border tensions yet another step.

Mango Mussolini needs a distraction until the federal government here is completely hollowed out. Then Don Cheetolini can say oh it was all a big misunderstanding.

(Also worth noting that harassing predominantly white Canadians desensitizes the general public in America to the eventual harassment of white Americans).

Trump blinked again.....withdrew the 50% tariff bullshit. Ford agreed to pause the electrical export charge. But funny that on Thursday Ford and Lukinuk are going to re negotiate NAFTA 2....lol Ford can't negotiate federal agreements.......Trump and crew are dumber then stumps....

The EU responded to Trump’s steel and aluminum tariffs by putting a tariff on US whiskey, among other things.

So our Petulant 4-Year-Old in Chief is throwing another tantrum.

President Trump threatened the EU with a 200% tariff on imported wines, champagnes, and other alcoholic products if the bloc did not remove a duty on whiskey.

Gullible MAGA sheep love it, because they are too dumb to realize there are no winners in a trade war.

Tuberville says Americans will have to suffer with tariffs: ‘No pain, no gain’

The American people are going to have to cope with hardship as President Donald Trump slaps tariffs on imports, Alabama’s senior senator said Wednesday.

Tommy Tuberville, the former Auburn University football coach-turned-Republican U.S. senator from Alabama, likened the suffering to the “pain” experienced by his players while they developed under his tutelage.

Unintended consequences: drug prices.

Cheap generic drugs come from India. Tariffs would increase the price of those drugs. Prescription drug prices are already one of the drivers of US inflation.

Nearly half of all generic medicines taken in the US come from India alone. Generic drugs - which are cheaper versions of brand-name medications - imported from countries like India make up nine out of 10 prescriptions in the US.

This saves Washington billions in healthcare costs. In 2022 alone, the savings from Indian generics amounted to a staggering $219bn (£169bn), according to a study by consulting firm IQVIA.

Seems like there’s a lot of room for making a trade deal with India rather than waging trade war on them.

Nobody wins a trade war …

As promised, Canada pushes back against Trump’s unprovoked attack on their economy.
just wish the sheep/maga followers would allow some thinking into their empty heads and understand they voted for a tax increase in the form of a tariff. the more it ratchets up, the more we all have to pay for the orange ego's idiocy. no one wins in this game unless you are using the tariff/tax to fund more of the largess the republicans want.
