I've seen some posters on this board deny there are such things as "Palestinians."

The Palestinians are just the people who were living there before the Jews moved in. They're closely related to the Jews according to DNA studies. They're descended from the ancient Israelites, Canaanites, Philistines, and everybody else who has ever lived in Palestine/Canaan.

They're not Israelis. They're not Egyptians. They're not Jordanians. They are entitled to some name more specific than "Arabs." Why not "Palestinians"?

The name "Palestine" was coined by the Romans to erase the identity of the people living in Judea after they conquered it and destroyed the Jewish Temple in Jerusalem. The name was later used by the British for the the territory they took from the Ottoman Empire after WWI. The Jews living there called it "Israel", as they had done continuously since classical times.

There has never been an independent Palestine. It has always been a name used by conquerors and colonizers. Sometimes the Arabs living there were happy living under colonial rule. They only started clamoring for an independent state when the Jews threw off the British imperial yoke and established the modern state of Israel.

The Jews always used "Israel" as a demonym, not a place-name. When they circumcise a baby, the rabbi says "Let his name be called in Israel Jacob Moishe," and he does not mean the country.

"Jewry," OTOH, is a place-name, not a demonym. "In Bethlehem, in Jewry the blessed babe was born" means he was born in Judea, not that he was born a Jew.

That tells you something about Israeli rule, that neither Ottoman nor British rule was nearly as objectionable.

Quoting a Christian source about "Jewry" is meaningless.

Originally the Jews lived in two neighboring kingdoms--Israel and Judah. Israel was destroyed first by the Babylonians. Judah survived for a few centuries longer, but after the land was conquered by the Romans, the Jews used "Israel" for the territory both kingdoms had occupied.

Many Palestinian Arabs live happily in Israel as Israeli citizens. The route to peaceful coexistence has always been there. The problem is the dead-enders who find the existence of an independent Jewish state intolerable. They're like unreconstructed Confederates who can't give up on the dream of the South rising again.

So, because the name was coined by the Romans and they've been persecuted ever since, it's OK to genocide them.

It wasn't the Jews who threw out the British, but the United Nations led by the US (OK, the Jews).

The Arabs in the Levant have never been genocided. 🙄 That’s just Hamas propaganda that too many people who should know better fell for.

The Zionists didn’t “throw out” the British. They saw the opportunity in the collapse of the British empire after the war to get self-determination in their homeland. They did have to defend their young nation from the Arabs who immediately attacked and tried to snuff it out.
