What happened to all of the doom and gloom economic threads?

This shutdown is unique though in that it's not about the budget. It's about the minority party trying to force the majority to legislate against its will on a law that has nothing to do with the CR or any kind of discretionary spending. Therefore there's no comparison to what happened in the 90s.

There is one important comparison... That one ended gingrich's careeer, and this one will end boehner's.

"A budget resolution based on President Obama’s 2013 budget failed to get any votes in the Senate on Wednesday.

In a 99-0 vote, all of the senators present rejected the president’s blueprint.

It’s the second year in a row the Senate has voted down Obama’s budget."

Yep. Obama passes bad budgets. Or more accurately his budgets are never really meant to be voted on and the Congress is supposed to work it out but oh well.

Vetteman will be along shortly to remind us that the Senate and the President have an obligation to rubberstamp the House's budget.

GALLUP: Republican Party Favorability Sinks to Record Low
Falls 10 percentage points from September's 38%

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- With the Republican-controlled House of Representatives engaged in a tense, government-shuttering budgetary standoff against a Democratic president and Senate, the Republican Party is now viewed favorably by 28% of Americans, down from 38% in September. This is the lowest favorable rating measured for either party since Gallup began asking this question in 1992.

GOP plummets, Obamacare soars in shutdown standoff

"The latest Wall Street Journal/NBC survey finds just 24% of Americans hold a positive opinion of Republicans–a record low for the modern party. Meanwhile, Barack Obama’s approval rating has bumped up slightly in the last month to 47%. Even worse for Republicans, Obama’s signature health care law –which triggered the shutdown in the first place–is now liked by a higher percentage of Americans than at any point this year."

What else?

1) The Republican party's approval rating plummets to 28%, the lowest mark EVER.

2) The Republican party's disapproval rating just skyrocketed to 62%, the highest mark EVER.

3) 27% of Republican party members disapprove of the Republican part

This poll was done October 3-6, right after the shutdown. The GOP's perception among the public tanked immediately with the shutdown, illustrating that they're being blamed far more than the democrats.

And in case any conservatives still think they're not harming America...

GALLUP: Weekly Drop in U.S. Economic Confidence Largest Since '08
Decline of 12 points to -34 is largest since Lehman Brothers collapsed

by Alyssa Brown

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Americans' confidence in the economy has deteriorated more in the past week during the partial government shutdown than in any week since Lehman Brothers collapsed on Sept. 15, 2008, which triggered a global economic crisis. Gallup's Economic Confidence Index tumbled 12 points to -34 last week, the second-largest weekly decline since Gallup began tracking economic confidence daily in January 2008.

And in case any conservatives still think they're not harming America...

They don't care if they harm america, as long as they can try to pass the blame on to someone else.

They're feeling their death rattles... and they're desperately willing to try any stunt to let them keep power.

Ideas don't have death rattles.

It is tempting to believe that this or that political victory is final, and that ideas contrary to a given Weltbild have forever been vanquished.

But that's naive.

The reality is that every new day brings some new political controversy.

Of course ideas have death rattles. I was hoping not to wake up to such high grade derp but for fuck sake why won't you just shut upt!

It is childish to believe that ideas have death rattles.

It is juvenile to believe that this or that political victory is final, and that ideas contrary to a given Weltbild have forever been vanquished.

If that were true, all political discussion would have halted on that golden day when Saint Barry of Obama ascended the throne.

But that's naive.

The reality is that every new day brings some new political controversy.

Tell me again how we debate slavery in this country.

No wait, your premise is fucking retarded. Please do shut up and contemplate every possible definition of quiet as the grave until you're a little smarter. It shouldn't be that hard.

Ideas don't have death rattles; it is childish to aver otherwise.

As applicable to political forums, ideas about the role of federal governance are eternal.

It is juvenile to believe that this or that political victory is final, and that ideas contrary to a given Weltbild have forever been vanquished.

So are you out there measuring foreheads or worshipping the sun today?

Phrenology is no longer in fashion, but bikini-clad heliotropes adorn many a beach.

If Obama's reelection, and the passage of Obamacare, marked some final ideological victory, why are political forums still open?

Ideas don't die, and -- as applicable in the instant case -- political victory is inherently fleeting.

So then it is all settled and final.

Obama is magnificent, and Obamacare -- even in inchoate form -- is totally wonderful.

So then trolls can quit posting and this electronic bulletin board can close down.
