OK, this is as usual interestingly hard, and I'm going to start with an odd association: in story 1, the bus conductor is called 'the transport agent'. Not in London, he ain't. So although that story purports to be British, its author isn't. On the other hand the author of story 9 knows quite a lot about old British motorbikes. Not enough. If he knew enough he'd know that the square four, though it looked cool, was a dog, and the rear cylinders used to overheat.

However, while old British people may know about old British motorcycles, I think it's less probable that a woman would be fetishistic about that particular hunk of metal. So I'm betting that, despite the female POV character, the author of 9 is British, male, and over 55.

Oggbashan is a candidate. I kind of suspect The_Fool may also be a candidate, but I can find nothing written by The_Fool. Liar is also apparently male, as is Thee Goat Pig. Right! Quite arbitrarily I'm assigning TheeGoatPig to 5 - he hasn't had a shag for a long time, and you get that feeling from that story. I'm assigning The_Fool to 3 because... well, it's surreal, and so it his nom de plume.


But I have as usual an excess of apparently male authored stories, so lets start from the other end...

Matriarch always writes lesbian stories, and there's only one here. So she's down for 4. [Edited] Except. Damn. Someone has suggested to me I'm wrong that 4 is the only lesbian story. H'mmmm... The gender of the voice character in 2 isn't explicit. There's nothing to suggest that (s)he is female. But there's absolutely nothing that states (s)he's not. H'mmm... the ferry could be English Channel. Again, nothing explicitly states it is, it's just a feeling. So; possibly 2 is lesbian and slightly butch, 4 is lesbian and slightly femme... if I may be so bold as to make that distinction.

Oh, hang on... the gender of the voice character in 7 isn't explicit, either. Train, Britain... the female love interest fits the voice character's shoes. And when I read the story first I remember thinking that was odd (or at least, fortuitous. H'mmm. I'm just getting more confused. Oh - wait - past_perfect's Strangers on a Train has a lot in common with 7. Let's go with that.

8 is a wonderfully sophisticated piece of story telling. I'd have no hesitation in assigning it to Lauren, except Lauren isn't in this group. Female, anyway. Damn. 10's another very good woman writer, too. Ah! Bother! 12 is explicitly FF and it's shit hot! how did I miss that? More confused than ever...

5 could be argued as lesbian but is a male fantasy; the action is about driver Stephen's response to the girls. Male and... not an especially sophisticated narrative. A younger author, or else someone who's interest is in stroke.

Now, the UK. Group A had an excess of stories set in France, this one has an excess of stories set in the UK. But I'm sure that the author of 1 isn't British and I'm not certain that the author of 7 is. H'mmmm.
