So who are my fantasy writers?

I started my first foray into the fantasy/sci-fi category tonight. I haven't been this jazzed about a story in a while. When I'm planning/writing a story I often like to read like stories, so shoot me some recommendations.

My story is called The Lusty Adventures of Nina and Brick. A terribly clever title, I know. :sneaky: I'm planning a swashbuckling adventure, full of violence, intrigue, mythological creatures, and sex. Think, Conan with Red Sonya but a little more clean-cut and more musketeer than barbarian. It'll be fun, full of lively banter and movie quotes. Likely an ongoing series.

I'm in a really cool place creatively right now and just had to share. Be cool.

Sprig smiled brightly from her hiding place in the trees. She’d been following these two adventurers around for weeks. Whenever there had been a fight, their lovemaking was always very intense. She ran her fingers over the nipple on her tiny breast and felt her heart race. The tiny forest nymph loved to watch.

I wrote a fantasy series.

Fair warning: It's a non-con D/s moving towards Romance, and it has a dark start with a love premise that bumps its shoulder with Stockholm Syndrome.

Further Disclaimer: it was the first piece I wrote when I returned to Lit (after a 7 year break) and re-reading the first part makes me cringe a bit now. However, if you can make it that far, the writing improves dramatically (IMO) in the later chapters, which at time of writing are sitting at 4.82/4.92.

*raises hand*

The Red Tsonia stories I wrote with LoquiSordidaAdMe are a love letter to Howardian pulp.
Mud and Magic is a coming-of-age story for a young sorcerer. Very grimdark in places. Inns & Invocations is the start of the second arc.
Twin Suns of Atlantis: Dorgon is another sword'n'sorcery tale, this time with a decidedly sci-fi spin
Leo & the Dragon, Shilana's Trial, Temptation of Gheeran, Tear's Desire and Dagger & Crystal are inspired by my long-running D&D campaign.
Reunion, The Faceless Executioner and Nikym's Predicament happen in the same setting but are not part of any larger storyline.
Rotten To The Core is a (thus far) one-off Urban Fantasy story. Think "Dresden Files", only with more sex.

The rest of my portfolio is either cyberpunk, Sci-Fi or assorted other stuff.

I love sword and sorcery! So this is a nice thread to bookmark :)

I loved Conan the Barbarian. I'm not so good at memorizing movie and book quotes, but one that will always be ingrained in my head is that moment when Conan and Subotai are preparing for battle, Conan says, "For us, there is no spring. Just the wind that smells fresh before the storm."

Conan was pure poetry.
I hope that movie is as good as I remember it lol :p

It is my preferred category. There is something about creating your own world, your own cities, races, cultures, and laws that separates the category from any other. The sheer sense of freedom to write anything, even the most absurd characters and worlds is what makes it so special to me.
My series leans more towards high fantasy, but I am always excited to see any newcomer to the category. Good luck and let us know when the story is out ;)

It's a gorgeous movie with surprisingly few bits of dialogue, at least considering its length. The thing which stuck with me most is the amazing soundtrack.

Yeah, I need to get in another plug for the Red Tsonia stories I wrote with Blind_Justice. They are heavily inspired by Robert E. Howard's style, and from what you've said, I think they'd be right up your alley, Rob.

Red Tsonia & The Witch in the Dark
Red Tsonia & The Jungles of Maddness

I look forward to seeing your finished story. Let us know when it's released.

I've written a couple of "fantasy" stories, but not really the atypical genres I suppose.

I wrote a two part series about an alien abduction and possession.

I wrote more of a dark horror/comedy about horny women zombies.

I wrote about a guy who sold his soul to the Devil and needed to have sex with a nun to win it back.

And just recently one about a guy who wakes up in the fantasy world of his own amateur porn stories.

But no, no sword & sorcery stuff lol.

Terrible Company is a sword and sorcery/fantasy/comedy/satire. I had never written anything like it when I started, having done more sci-fi, so it took me a couple chapters to get my voice. If you can stick with it until chapter 4 (the proto-chapter), there's 11 more after it that make me real damn proud even years later. Some of the best characters I've ever created.

The sun dominated above. Even the shadows wilted under the oppression of the day star as it reached its zenith over the fields surrounding Aedor. The cool breeze, coming down from the mountains to the north, brought small relief from the stifling heat. The worst of the long summer months were behind, but that was no balm for the adventurer. She grimaced, brushing sweat from her brow as she looked out upon the parched grasslands.

The road was empty for now, but that was how she liked it. Too many people had failed her over the years, leaving her jaded and trust in short supply. No, the Orc was a loner, through and through.

Maybe this road would be the one she'd been searching for. Maybe, at the end of this stretch of dirt where the grass refused to grow, at the end of another long, tiring walk, she would find the answers she sought. Maybe they were even the answers she needed.

Small for an Orc at a mere six foot five, she was nevertheless a vision of muscle and beauty. Her arms were as thick as braided dock rope. Her legs, even thicker, like rounded slabs. She had a hard look about her underneath her shaggy black hair. Scars adorned her toned body like badges of honor. She had the look of a woman who'd seen the very face of hell, only to claw her way back.

"Stop describing me."

She said, to no one in particular.

"You're being very over-dramatic."

"It breaks the fourth wall if you address me directly," the Narrator whined.

Okay, I'm there.

That was a lot of fun, I enjoyed it. Man, the GF was pissed.

I will definitely be checking those out. Howard's work was formative reading in my youth. My story will be more perverts-playing-Dungeons and Dragons meets Fritz Leiber's, Fafhrd and the Grey Mouser. Trust me when I say, no tavern wench will be safe.

So, murderhoboes inc.?

Terrible Company was originally supposed to have a co-author, although I ended up doing all thebwriting on my own. When we were spitballing ideas for "a fantasy story with orcs and elves and dwarves", she pointed me at Terry Pratchett. At the beginning, anyway, I was actively emulating his style while I learned.

My most-used category is SF&F, although within there most of my work would fall under the 'SF' side of things, as the speculative elements are aliens and science-based extrapolations.

Where I do, so far, have Fantasy, it's low fantasy, I don't have - here - any high fantasy. Not because I have no interest in it, but because so far what I've been doing there is most likely targeted for other outlets.

My Erotic Horror and NonHuman have fantastical elements, this year's Valentine's Day entry - The Way to a Man's Heart - has a significant fantasy element in it, whether it's portal or possession is up to the reader. The FMC is well aware of the situation, but not the other human characters. And she has no interest in informing them of anything more than necessary. The planned but not yet written sequel would bring those elements more into play, the existing story intentionally set that up, although it has a clear ending.

Your story sounds like an epic sort of adventure, you'll definitely have my read on it. :giggle:

I've got some dark fantasy stuff planned for the coming months, and some epic Sci-Fi stuff planned as well that will be touching base with a race of extraterrestrial from my earlier Sci-Fi Geek Pride submission (another female member of Nine's race, woo!) I'll be happy to tip you off when things publish.

There've been Leinyere events for two years now. Those are good-natured shared-universe fantasy events. Jump into the next one! We always have a good time.

I've written a good deal of fantasy, mostly commercially. On Lit, I do more SF. But I enjoy being semi-fantastical too, with vampire or werewolf stories here and there.

I saw that, and at the time I was just starting out writing here. I really didn't have time to dive into the lore that was provided. We'll see in the future.

Why not? I write fun stories. Sexy, pornographic, a little romantic and sweet, but ultimately fun stories. I've no aspirations to do or be otherwise. This is me enjoying myself. If readers dig it, so much the better. The Lusty Adventures will be the same way, with some humor added. The movie quotes will fit the scene so that even if the reader doesn't catch it, it feels like part of the story. I'm not going to throw a, "He said the sheriff is near!" into the story just to be cute. And they aren't going to be in every third paragraph. I'm 1600 words in and have included one.
Clear enough?

Agree! This was fun to write for. The more the merrier. I'm still continuing my sword and sorcery story that I created for this event. Didn't think I would enjoy writing fantasy as much as I am.

If you have to ask, then maybe you should rewrite your answer, and after that, do what makes you happy.
