What is Perdition?

Well the hard definition is: A state of final spiritual ruin; loss of the soul; damnation...but I doubt that is what you are really asking. No, what you want, and need, to know is that Perdition is purgatory.

No mortal being in the known reality could explain how or when the dimension known as Perdition came to be. It simply exists, and has always been. It contains no beginning and no end. You can walk for days in any direction, and when you turn around, you will find that you have barely moved at all. It is a final rest stop for lost souls who need a second chance-or a final sentencing.

Not every soul in Perdition is evil, but every soul is tainted. Everyone has a secret, dark and dreary, that they do not want to face. However, if they ever wish to leave this eternal, mind-numbing hell, they must. If they cannot?

Well. Eventually.

Eventually...they will be sentenced.


What is the setting for the world?

Perdition is a dark and dreary place, set upon a small ghost town. The sun never shines bright, as the clouds are always thick and hinting of rain, and sometimes let loose with a cold downpour.

In the middle of town, there is one building in good condition. A huge brickstone castle known as The Dogskin Bar. The sign hanging above both the front and back entrance reads:

"Dogskin Bar

The road to redemption is endless. The path to Hell-a simple step."

The large castle is the only thing in Perdition that can offer relief to weary traveller's. With a bright, warm interior, and a bar with no bartender, but that somehow places whatever a customer needs atop the counter-free of charge, without having to even mutter a sound. It beckons to almost every soul who walks the wasteland.

Beneath the town and castle lies the ruins of a buried city. Dark, cold, and forever smelling of mildew and lies, the tunnels and crumbling structures are never ending. No one has ever found the beginning, nor the end, and no one ever shall. Not many a soul ever braves the deep tunnels, and even fewer ever find their way back.

Rules

Nothing that could break site rules is allowed. This should go without having to say, but things such as beastiality and underage sex is a no no.

No hardcore scat or piss. Ass to mouth and squirting are fine, but if you want to do scat or pissing, please take it to private chat.

No snuff (murder porn). For clarification: characters dieing is fine, even encouraged, but the death itself should be handled with tact, a fade to black, or taken to private chat or email if you are into that stuff.

No private messaging people without their permission first. I have had trouble with this on other sites.

Characters will be human, not aliens or mythical creatures such as vampires, werewolves, etc.. The world itself has some light elements of magic, but players themselves should not have any extreme strengths that could not be in the realm of possibility. (A mild stretch to this is mundane things such as empaths, fortunes, psychic visions, or seeing people's auras or colors) Keep these under control though-no over powered abilities such as directly reading people's thoughts, or just straight up seeing the future and exactly how it will go.

Characters can be killed, but if it is your main character and you want to keep playing them, then they will simply reappear somewhere in the town of underground the next day, with all their memories. This also applies to characters attempting suicide as a means out of Perdition.

If anyone is thinking about killing off someone else's character, you need to ask their permission first.

Have general respect for your fellow players. If someone expresses, out of character, that they do not want to do something, or have something done to their character, you need to respect that and not do it.

If you have a disagreement with someone-take it to the OOC (here) or private chat.

There will be no main DM or dice roles. Players will simply be expected to cooperatively write together. The thread will also remain open, but if you and another player would like to branch off and make your own closed thread-go for it.

Final notes

Players can be hurt badly but no new scars will form, and all wounds will be healed by the next day. Old scars from before they came to Perdition will stay and never change.

The rp will involve dark themes. Rape, reluctance, trauma, and generally dark tones are encouraged. This does not mean that moments of comedy, happiness, joy, and ecstacy cannot occur. Just simply keep in mind the type of rp you are walking into.

As the creator of this thread, I hold the right to change any of these rules or world settings in the future, if I feel it is necessary.

Updates And Clarifications, 6/22/20

Well now, it's been a hot minute since this thread has seen any action. However, in recent weeks it has, and along with that hot, hot, action, I have noticed that I might need to do a bit of clarifying and updating. So, here are some changes to the world that will hopefully make the playing experience more smooth:

Time in this realm/dimension will work like this-

Any players who are in the same general area shall run on the same time. For example, if character A, B, and C are all in the halls of the bar, or are all in one room, they will stay on the same time as each other. Time will move at the same rate for each of those character and/or players.

Any players who are not in the same general area as other players or characters can, if the player chooses, run on a different time. If one player is sitting at the table in the general bar area (where the jukebox, dance floor, bar stools, and drinks are served), and another player is in a separate room, hall, or anywhere else, they do not have to experience time the same.

For example, let's say player A and C are having a pleasant conversation over a beer in the general bar area, but player B is in their own private room, or somewhere else in the world. Players A and C could experience an hour or two passing over that shared drink, while player B could experience a full day, twenty four hours, or even months or years. Or, if one chooses, Players A and C could experience a full day, while player B only an hour.

The way time is manipulated will be used for the purpose of story telling, and be up to the players to figure out how they want to use it. The purpose of this, for out of character, will be so that we can have multiple people playing in the same thread but without having to wait on someone to post if we don't want to. This way, things can hopefully stay flexible and people can write and play at their own pace.

Clarification/General Reminder

The Dogskin Bar Does NOT have a bartender. The bar itself simply materializes drinks, objects, and sometimes things that the character will not like to see. It is a device and tool for story telling, and shall remain this way. However, the bar will occasionally allow other players to come back and make drinks, but there will be no general bartender.

The Dogskin Bar has many levels. The first level is a general bar area that looks like a standard, if albeit very large, bar. The stairs of the bar then lead up to many halls and 'rooms', and each character must wander the halls until they are given their own 'room' by the bar. Remember, every character in this realm is dead, so things do not work like normal reality. The fiction can be stretched and molded to fit the character so long as godmodding does not occur.

It was mentioned previously that characters will remain human, but this does not mean they cannot have 'pets', or magical visions happen to them in the form of spiritual things or animals. This realm itself is a place where spirits go, so in a way, the whole realm is a manifestation of the mind. The animals of course, are not real, but can appear so and should have some significance to the characters.
