Indiana's Obamacare rates for 2015 all over the map

Deductibles were growing at a geometric pace before the ACA was passed. High deductible plans weren't created by the ACA. They were created by insurance companies to lower risk for companies that self insure. They are intended to lower utilization by making the consumer bear the cost of their own health care.

I didn't pay a deductable before ACA, and as of now (today) I still don't pay a deductable...... I expect that to change.

Yeah, like I said earlier, there's this thing called a "free market". Premiums are going to rise as health care costs rise. Obamacare, in theory, should help slow that growth. It's not perfect, as you seem to delight in pointing out.

But...it's a quantum improvement over the old system overall.

Most people disagree.

That will have nothing to do with ACA. It'll be because your employer is no longer willing to bear the full burden if the cost of your healthcare and is choosing to have you share in the cost.

Nothing wrong with hoping and wishing, but I know what I was taught by my parents about what you can do with hoping and wishing.

We could have had both single payer and private insurance, much as with Medicare and private supplemental insurance.

Which would you have preferred....if either?

I would prefer a single payer for basic health with the option to buy supplemental. That gets you 100% of the country covered and in the base risk pool.

No, but there were plenty of low deductible or no deductible plans in 2007.

Yes because the high deductible plans were being created then. Your employers were getting tired if paying the full cost of your health care and were going to start dropping coverage, but health plans created high deductible plans which had lower premiums and lower exposure for companies that self insured.

Doubtful. Since a version of the ACA was written in the 90's.

If that's what you choose to believe. That in 2006, we were offering companies a cheaper premium option with high deductible plans because a sharia socialist might become president in two years and implement Romneycare nationwide.

That's not what I meant and you know it.

No it didn't. The high cost of our health care system did. It was either high deductibles or your employers weren't going to cover you anymore.

I don't know anyone who paid more than a $50 DEDUCTABLE FOR ANYTHING, prior to Obamacare.

Are you listening to the people from Indiana, or are you pulling your pud in the corner???
