GOP House leadership for the next congress: All white men

HEY, ALL THAT CHICK-LIB STUFF WAS JUST FOR THE ELECTION. HE DOESN’T ACTUALLY BELIEVE IT: WaPo: Obama’s failure to nominate women for two top Cabinet posts questioned. “Obama, who made women’s issues a core of his reelection bid, has nominated men to serve in three of his most prominent national security positions. . . . The moves have disappointed some supporters who said they fear, with Clinton’s departure, a paucity of females among Obama’s top advisers, particularly in the traditionally male-dominated field of defense and security.”

WH grilled about all the new male appointees to Obama’s cabinet

White House Press Secretary Jay Carney said that “diversity is important,” but defended President Obama from the suggestion that he isn’t appointing enough women to his cabinet by noting that expertise is the most important factor.

“The President does believe that diversity is very important and he also believes that picking the absolute right person for each job is very important,” Carney told CNN’s Brianna Keilar during the White House press briefing. “And the nominees he announced today represent that principle in that he believes Senator Hagel and John Brennan are the right individuals for the jobs to which they have been nominated.”

Carney listed women serving in the administration, such as the departing Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, UN Ambassador Susan Rice, and Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano.

“And [Obama], in that process, insists on diversity on the lists that he considers for the job because he believes that in casting a broader net, you increase the excellence of the pool of potential nominees for these positions,” Carney continued. “But in the end, he’ll make the choice that he believes is best for the United States. In this case, that would be Secretary Hagel — or Senator Hagel for Secretary of Defense and John Brennan for Director of the CIA.”

Obama has decided to replace Clinton with Sen. John Kerry, R-Mass.

War On Women: Obama To Nominate Jack Lew As Next Treasury Secretary, All Four Secretary Nominees White Men…

Where are those binders full of women when you need them?

Via The Hill:

President Obama will nominate White House Chief of Staff Jack Lew to be his next Treasury secretary on Thursday, according to a report.

Bloomberg reports that Obama has settled on Lew as his nominee to replace Timothy Geithner and offered him the position.

“It is all but a done deal,” a source close to the matter told Fox News.

Über-Hack Stephanie Cutter: Picture Of Obama’s All-Male Inner Circle “Not Reflective” Of White House…

Cutter’s reasoning: Because there is one woman, Valerie Jarrett.

Via Washington Examiner:

Stephanie Cutter, deputy campaign manager for President Obama’s 2012 reelection bid, said that The New York Times’ coverage of the “all male look” of his inner circle is misleading.

“That picture is not reflective of what actually happens,” Cutter said on Morning Joe when shown a picture of the president with his closest advisers (ten men, plus Valerie Jarrett’s leg) [seen above -ed.]. “There are plenty of women in the president’s inner circle.”

Cutter mentioned Jarrett — whom The New York Times described in September as “the other power in the West Wing” — and Obama’s two deputy chiefs of staff, Nancy-Ann DeParle and Alyssa Mastromonaco to demonstrate the prominence of women in the White House.

Dem Rep. Charlie Rangel Calls Obama’s All White, Male Cabinet “Embarrassing As Hell”…

I love when they eat their own.

Via Politico:

Rep. Charlie Rangel (D-N.Y.) on Thursday called it “embarrassing as hell” that President Barack Obama is facing charges that his White House lacks diversity.

“It’s embarrassing as hell. We’ve been through all of this with [2012 GOP presidential nominee] Mitt Romney. And we were very hard with Mitt Romney with the women binder and a variety of things,” Rangel said on MSNBC. “And I kind of think there’s no excuse with the second term

Salon Hack Joan Walsh: GOP’s Fault Obama Picked An All-Male Cabinet…

Walsh would rather make a jackass out of herself than criticize Chicago Jesus.

Via Mediaite:

Since the New York Times printed a photo on Wednesday featuring the predominately white and male members of President Barack Obama’s inner circle, contributors and MSNBC guests have been simultaneously noting the problem this presents for the diversity movement and exonerating Obama for his failure to appoint more women and minorities to top posts. Not one MSNBC contributor or progressive blogger, however, had been able to effectively tar the opposition party for Obama’s failure to live up to their ad hoc diversity standards – that was, however, until Salon.com editor Joan Walsh stepped up to the plate. [...]

Walsh took a more enterprising approach. She discovered a subtle way to blame the GOP for Obama’s staffing decisions, noting that United Nations Amb. Susan Rice — both African-American and female herself — withdrew from consideration for a Cabinet post when it became clear she would face stiff opposition from Republicans in the Senate.

melissa Harris Perry On Cabinet Diversity: Clarence Thomas Doesn't Represent Blacks

MSNBC host and commentator Melissa Harris Perry surprisingly defended the lack of diversity in President Obama's second term cabinet in an appearance on the network this morning. Harris Perry says just because someone is of one gender and not the other or has a certain skin color doesn't mean they are representative of that specific group. Harris Perry cites Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas as an example, who she says doesn't represent "the vast majority" of African-Americans.

MSNBC host and commentator Melissa Harris Perry says we should "be careful" when it comes to calling out the hypocrisy of President Obama for having a not so diverse cabinet. Perry says we don't want to "assume that any given physical body carries with it a set of political ideas."

Harris Perry names Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas as an example. Harris Perry says just because he is black it "does not mean Justice Thomas is representing necessarily the positions, the issues, even the Constitutional interpretation that is shared by the vast majority of civil rights organizations, by the vast majority of African-Americans."

Harris Perry: The optics are one piece of it of it. But, I think we want to be careful, because no one wants to assume that any given physical body carries with it a set of political ideas, so for example, you know, Clarence Thomas sitting on the Supreme Court of the United States does not mean that Justice Thomas is representing, necessarily, the positions, the issues, even the Constitutional interpretation that is shared by the vast majority of civil rights organizations and by the vast majority of African-Americans. Simply putting women in a space, for example, had Congresswoman Bachmann ended up as the president of the United States, she might not have been representative of women's issues in the broadest sense, because so many women are, in fact on the side of reproductive rights and justice. On the other hand, it also matters to have a diverse cabinet, to have a diverse set of opinions and ideas. My biggest concern is I worry that maybe the president has lessened his diversity, in part because he suspects it will cause less of a battle with the Senate process. But, I bet that it won't. These Republicans are so determined to stand in the way that it won't matter whether these are white men or black women. If they're coming from the president they're going to get resistance.

NOW Feminazis Outraged With Obama’s All-Male Secretary Nominees, “President Obama, Where Are The Women?”…

He prefers the company of men.

Via Daily Caller:

The nation’s leading liberal women’s group, the National Organization for Women, is demanding to know why President Barack Obama has failed to make more high-profile appointments of women to his administration.

“President Obama has made a number of high-profile appointments recently — four at last count — and they are all white men,” NOW said in a blast email to supporters Thursday evening, with the subject line, “President Obama, Where are the Women?”

The organization noted that while groups like NOW hoped United Nations Ambassador Susan Rice would succeed Secretary of State Hilary Clinton, she too was “was pushed aside and replaced with a white male nominee” when the “right wing unjustly smeared” her.

NOW is encouraging its members to sign a petition urging the president to appoint more women to his Cabinet — especially women of color. The group suggested, for example, that a woman helm the Federal Communications Commission for the first time in the agency’s history.

I'd prefer a little more diversity. It's going to be weird having a dude as Secretary of State.
