I believe your thoughts are correct for the most part. But there are some things I would like to add, based on my own experiences and a comment of mine and my past husbands feelings about this. Admittedly, they are second hand, being a woman.

Early in my life, I worked as a photographers model and my photos appeared in men's magazines. In this business I got to know and become friends with a number of gay and bisexual men. Hair dressers, make up, wardrobe, etc. Being the type of audience my photos were intended for, sexy subjects were part of fairly common discussions and jokes.
