A man fired shots while at a campsite in Mammoth Cave National Park in central Kentucky after telling campers they were looking for Bigfoot, WBKO reported.

Couple Brad Ginn and Madelyn Durand told WBKO that they were woken up in the middle of the night Sunday as a man approached them and told them something destroyed their campsite.

The man told the couple that "it was Bigfoot country," Ginn said. He then warned the couple to be careful and said he was searching for whatever destroyed the camp.

"He said 'I hope you have weapons' and then he flashed his gun at us and was like 'I have this so if anything happens to you then just yell and I'll come,'" Durand told WBKO.

After heading back to their tent, the couple heard gun shots. They then called police and hiked five miles back to their car to meet up with park officials.

The man that the couple encountered was not alone in claiming to have seen Bigfoot. There have been close to 400 alleged Bigfoot sightings in Kentucky, according to kentuckybigfoot.com, which is ran by the Kentucky Bigfoot Research Organization.

According to the website, the Kentucky Bigfoot Research Organization was founded in 1997 to "document all credible bigfoot encounters in Kentucky."

On the website, users can submit reports about their Bigfoot encounters, and the site's investigators will write notes if they followed up with the source's submission.

A police officer in Kentucky shot his son Monday during a domestic dispute, according to authorities.

Kentucky State Police troopers responded to reported shooting about 4:10 p.m. Monday at a residence on Starlite Drive in Somerset, according to a news release.

Troopers determined 24-year-old Devin Griffith had been shot by his father, 47-year-old Jason Griffith, during a "domestic dispute altercation" that took place at Jason Griffith's residence, according to state police.

Devin Griffith was flown to the University of Kentucky Medical Center, where he is listed in stable condition after receiving treatment for his injuries, according to the state police.

Jason Griffith is a Somerset police officer, and a department spokesperson told WKYT he is on administrative leave while Kentucky State Police investigate the case.
