The BDSM Book Club Discussion Thread

I loved Interview but it took her over a decade to come out with Lestat which I also loved.

The Witching Hour was not a good book to read whilst pregnant! But the series itself is not bad.

At some point in the vamp series the two series intersect. Also at some point it's all about male homosexual relationships. I'm all for it but I don't want to read that much about it.

Honestly her descriptions can drown you and sometimes I enjoy that depending on what she is describing and sometimes I find it difficult and skip it.

One thing I liked in Interview was the idea of a vampire with a more conscientious attitude which was very different when Interview came out.

Another thing I liked in some of her books was how she took the supernatural and made it more relatable and human.

Of course the real reason I like vamp fiction if it is decent is the D/s undertones.

As a book hoarder, I still had the first book stuck on my shelf. I reread about 70 pages last week. I'm convinced, at this point, that Rice was going for "outrageous" regardless of plot or reader sensibilities. <sigh>

I have truly enjoyed a few of her books. I liked Lestat very much. I enjoyed the first of the Witching Hour novels (don't want to be bothered to check the title right now) especially for her descriptions of New Orleans. I really love Cry to Heaven, probably most of all.

But so much of the rest of her books are, well, dreck to me. I'm honestly baffled how an author can be so "all over the place" in writing from one book to the next, and back again. I've never wanted to "dinner party" but also yell at an author as much as I have with Rice. Gah!

My pleasure!

Thank you for the timing nudge furry fury :)

Does the fourth book continue the same story line? I read the first three quite a few years ago and all back to back so the overall story line is blurry for me.

Yes more or less. The queen is gone and Beauty becomes queen under the condition that all who serve give consent. Not a problem since they all ache to serve right?

I like that you are such a contrarian. Glitter is messy but as Pink says "Have you ever thrown a handful of glitter in the air?" Such would put certain people I know into spasms of anxiety but it's an amusing thing to be sure. Pity the janitorial staff at such events.

Yes. I read it.

It was a refreshing change to read something in a slightly realistic setting, where jobs aren't an issue, and people can wander around outside in their gold paint etc etc.

But. I do have some issues, of a sort of quite gritty reality nature, with the book. Although this is meant to be the new happy kingdom with more consideration and less selfishness there is some dodgy Emotional behaviour presented as passionate/ romantic I felt. I felt while reading it a bit uncomfortable about it giving polyamourism ( rather than BDSM) a dodgy spin. While I appreciated the fantastical setting I prefer the emotions and impacts they have to be a little more real or at least balanced in a book.

I really, really feel inspired to be decorated with glitter after this book, ( though I am a bit worried about uti's ..I'm so boring, oh, I wonder if edible glitter would be safer , anyway..). But, pretty much you are lost for lust figures if you are not a fan of blue eyes in this book. What was it with all the blue eyes? It felt slightly......well, not nice, I was relieve at least that plenty of brunettes. ( with mainly blue eyes) got through!

I thought some of the most engagingly written stuff was the pony stuff. I have no personal interest in this in the least, ( maybe I approached it more fairly?). It was not sexy to me, but none the less, engageing.

I know that Rice is a popular writer, and I would read something else, maybe Interview, because... As a film that did not lack the 'reality' of emotion I interpreted often between characters in this book. I was determined to enjoy this book, as a contrarian because you had been harsh about its predecessors. I found it a little vapid I guess, apart for the bits I was cross about

I hate glitter. lol It's right up there with Easter grass and tinsel - once it enters your house you never are free again.

Thank you, it is a challenging trait ( ah, personally, not to others only) because it is not meant to be offensive to others.

As far as i can tell you're always polite in your opinions. If people are offended by you not agreeing with them, when you're polite in the way you put it, then really they can just kiss butt. Like Furry said, I like that you have a different view point on the books we read - it makes the conversation more interesting than when we all agree - which is kinda boring. lol

I need not be free of glitter, its a little reminder by the shirting board, or on the stair that life need not be matt.

Thank yougraceanne. I am strongly of opinion that one can have passionate conversation with courtesy, and that it makes it easier to understand other view points then when one gets distracted into insults about other stuff! I love being stretched and challenged and asked to step into other viewpoints, and I often fail to remember others find unpleasant this sensation, offensive, that i find engaging when not rudely done!

I'm a Christian submissive who hang out on porn board. I can handle differences in opinion. I an even handle them when they're not put politely - by using the ignore button. lol

OMG! I HATES the Easter grass!

Tinsel I sort of like on a tree you throw out but I don't throw my tree out.

Recently a coworker used glitter in a program. It's everywhere now and again, I pity our very bad janitorial staff on that one.

I like differences and discussion rather than argument. I want to understand other people's POV particularly on art such as books.

Not that it has anything to do with the thread... But why do you hate Easter grass? How is it impossible to get rid of?

I'm starting to think Easter grass there is something very, very different than Easter grass here (which is actual grass you grow on a little pot for Easter). :)

I googled Easter grass I had never heard of it. Seela, like spaghetti plastic grass.

What is the point of either grasses please?

The point of our grass is just to look pretty. It originally represents spring and life starting again, I think. You put little baby chick figurines and mini chocolate eggs in the grass.

Or if you're my nephew, you plow the fields with your toy tractor.

It's traditional for Easter baskets and I guess, yes, to look pretty but it's dangerous for cats and difficult to completely remove from your home once it's entered it. I prefer to use paper cut into strings or ribbons which are easier to contain.

It's this evil stuff that you put under kids Easter candy. It's made of plastic and it's thin and gets f'ing EVERYWHERE. You think you got it all, and then you move your couch to clean under it. It takes three months to get all of it out of your house.

I use tissue paper. Easter tissue paper that I crumple loosely in the bottom of the basket.

Chuckling about the glitter. I got a holiday dress several years ago, Christmas red with silver glitter snowflakes all over. That damn thing shedded everywhere I went! It shedded in my closet until I finally imprisoned it on a large trash bag, tied shut at the bottom. I kept finding glitter in weird places.

My daughter got a dress for a spring party...dark blue with pink glitter. I could have throttled her! LOL It got relegated to a trash bag/hanger immediately.

I read 80 pages. Couldn't stand it.

So, I'm the only random glitter lover, ( and probably have the dirtiest home, I sometimes still find hair under furniture from my doggy who died at Around Christmas:eek:) nobody likes Easter grass ( apart from real grass) :) and tissue is good for Easter egg baskets :D. ( I like this conversation very much...) but....

am I the only sucker that read the book? ;) :) :D

That happened at my house too. Today at work "craft feathers" were falling apart, I hate fucking feathers and feather boas too.

Looks like it.

I had to replace my tires. That's my story and I'm sticking to it. :D

Crap! Is it that time already? I haven't really started it.

I've been making up time at work and much of my reading time is gone because I'm not taking lunches and I'm too tired at night.

Working for the weekend today!

But...if you get a flat, does it spurt glitter????:D

I finished Twist Me today. I think I need to process it for a few days.
