Tommy nodded, though he wrinkled his nose at her snippy “slut” comment and cut him off before he could respond.
“Okay, Anna,” he replied simply as she left him there. The nurses, for their part, left him alone, although he was in no condition to get flirtatious anyway. He just wanted to get home, get a shower, take his meds and zonk out on the couch with some movies at this point.
The time came, and Anna returned, true to her word. He had already been unhooked from the IV and gathered up his things, and together they made their way to the parking garage. He was loathe to accept a wheelchair, but he did anyway.
Tommy spent the drive home talking to Anna, trying to piece together what had happened. “I mean, I know that day we were assembling the framing for the roof of the house. I guess that’s not something we do, like, every day, but still, nothing crazy. I had to go up the ladder on the side of the house... I must have lost my balance and fell. I don’t really remember. I guess you hit your head you forget some shit.”
