Bandit's Blurt and Vent Thread

I would never have dared to talk back to my parents - I would have been dead:eek: or not been able to sit down for a week

Whatever happened to discipline and setting boundaries, and sticking to them? These kids (she has a younger brother) are given everything they want, without having to earn anything. They have every expensive toy known to man, and they don't appreciate any of it. God help her mum when that daughter hits her teens.....

Oh yes, because it is so much easier to let kids do whatever they want and never make any effort to maintain authority.
As I see there are even laws that support such lousy parents.

 Now I read that Sir's daughter wants to get her daughter Taylor Swift concert tickets for Christmas.....AARRGGHHH it's like banging your head against a brick wall trying to get through to her that the child doesn't deserve anything until she shapes up!

 how many times have I tried to let her know what she needs to do to keep the kid behaving

I'd like to get my hands on some of these anti spanking kids do fucking gooders, I'm very anti abuse but all the damn kids these days have no respect for anyone because their parents have no rights.

You don't really have to spank kids to get them to behave, I once watched a well known child expert throw one of his kids into a three day depression when he told him how disappointed he was in him.
I learned several things from this man that stuck with me:
consistency is everything with children and pets, it gives them firm boundaries and a sense of security.

Children seem to imitate their parents, and when they see or hear parents not show other people respect, they feel they can act the same way. They don't really understand that many people act different ways in various situations.

I say bring civility back on all levels of human interaction! :)

Great post! I totally agree!

I hardly ever spanked my kids. A raised voice was usually enough, because they knew that when their usually placid and easy going mum let fly with a verbal barrage, they'd crossed the line :) A short sharp smack across the butt was only used as a very last resort.

Punishments were usually things like not being able to watch a favourite tv programme, deprivation of computer for a certain amount of time, or being grounded/no pocket money for that week. I was lucky, they were good kids most of the time.

Sir's grandaughter needs a firm hand and she's just not getting it. His daughter didn't have a good parental role model growing up (long story, but she didn't live with Sir for most of her life). She's overcompensating for what she didn't have by overindulging her kids to the point of ridiculousness. It's going to come back and bite her in the bum big time in a few more years.....:(

I make my kids do chores for bad behavior. I say if they have the time/energy to act that way, then they have the time/energy to do something constructive. Spanking is for outright defiance and things that could get them killed (like running out in the street).

Have just read in Facebook about the 9 yr old's birthday. She got a $360 stereo to dock her IPod in....and just read the list below of what those kids have. Remember they are 9 and 7 years old....

between them they have 2 DVD players (and endless DVD's), 2 TVs, PS2, Wii, PSP, 2 DS, IPOD, Digital cameras.... Oh and there is a Nintendo 64 with 10+ games floating around too...There is nothin left bar XBOX & J (7yo) wants one this xmas!!! I was F#$Ked trying to think of something for her today & ended up getting her one of her xmas presents!!! TOO SPOILT, I have to stop, now - They are both getting too disrespectful & really don't appreciate what they have... (Edited quote from Facebook)

At least she appears to realise what's going on, but she needs to do something about it before they turn into terrible teens.... Also read that she's lost her phone - that's about the third one and she doesn't get cheap ones, I think it was an IPhone....her partner is unemployed and she is in her last year of nursing training, so where is all the money for this coming from.....

Apart from that, all is going along ok, we went to the speedway last night and I froze sitting on the hill....hope it's warmer next weekend what happened to spring!!

Alot of the money could be coming from Grants or Student Loans, im getting oodles every semester, lol course im being responsible and paying off various bills.
As for the children, hell im 26, can buy myself whatever i want with said grant money and i dont even own, nor want, any sort of gaming station. Now an IPod would be nice wont lie.. but i figure a 32 inch flat panel tv and a new comp (which is also being used for school) are great presents for myself.
And as for when said kids are misbehaving, i dont know about her, but i would be unplugging ALL of the gaming things and taking them away, same with the dvd players. We grew up without all of those things and were raised well enuogh to realize we DONT get what we want all the time and NOT to treat our parents like that.
And disappointing my mother is a huge worry of mine and like i said im 26 and i still worry about it. She did spank us growing up but sorta had to stop it when it stopped working and we started laughing about it.

Now it's my turn to go through medical tests/procedures

Next Tuesday I am booked in to have an MRI to check if I have any brain aneurysms. My mother had a small one burst when she was a little older than I am now, and there's a chance they can be hereditary. Mum survived but she had to have surgery to "clip" two small ones on the left side of her brain - she has been left with a "pulling" sensation on the side of her head and she still gets pain sometimes.

The following week I have an appointment to schedule a colonoscopy. My father had rectal cancer when he was 50, and had surgery and radiation treatment. He had to wear a colostomy bag for the rest of his life, but he remained cancer free from 1981 until he died in 2005. I've since found out that I should have started screening from the age of 40...lol 11 years too late but I guess better late than never!

NOT looking forward to this, read previous postings, Sir had complications after His but He was on blood thinning medication whereas I am not and hopefully the worst thing about it will be the cleanout prior to the procedure *yuk*

Good for you taking care of yourself like that!

I have resisted getting the colon test. My dad died with colon cancer at 52. I'm waiting for them to get something less invasive the works just as well. Either that or I'm chicken.

:rose:

Oh I am probably just as big a chicken as you ;) I've hardly ever had to be in hospital and the last surgery I had done was a day surgery to have my tubes tied when I was 40

I have been procrastinating about making the appointments but Sir has insisted that I do because He says how can I take care of Him if I don't take care of me

I get a colonoscopy once a year, and I have to say the procedure is just not that big a deal. The prep sucks - they give you something that gives you diarrhea so bad that when you're done you're pooping clear.

But for the colonoscopy they give you this med that will give you the best nap you have ever had. It's like . . . just wow.

MMMMM drugs....
Thanks grace, I guess I am a little nervous because of what happened to Sir.
The time from appointment to actual procedure will probably be about 2 months away so I have to stop worrying until it happens

Yeah, but MasterGil has extenuating health conditions. I'm sure you'll be fine. *hugs*

That's lovely to be loved liked that, IMO.

Gee I picked the right day to have a brain scan - woke up with the hormonal headache from hell

Sir told me to go back to bed, I slept for about an hour and a half after taking several painkillers and now feeling much better....I think I need some stronger pills for these headaches I have to take 3 at a time of over the counter meds to make a dent in it

I hope the MRI went well. Actually having a headache while its happening might be a good thing, except for that annoying banging the machine does.

That MRI was the longest 15 minutes of my life  I hope I don't have to have another one anytime soon!

I now know that I am claustrophobic....I don't know what was worse having my eyes open or closed  The technician thought I was going to wimp out at one stage she could see that I had tensed up. However I managed to stay (relatively) calm by doing some yoga breathing and telling myself over and over that "It'll be over soon it'll be over soon"

And that annoying banging, buzzing, hammering noise - I had earplugs AND earmuffs and it was still very loud.

I have the pictures here but have to take them to a doctor to get them analysed, probably will get there in a week or so. They didn't come out and tell me that I had a time bomb in my head so I'm assuming that all is well until told otherwise :)

I knew things couldn't keep on going well for us....I had problems with the venous buttonhole again, even using a sharp it wouldn't go in so we shot up to the hospital where even two experienced nurses couldn't get a cannula in...so they put a sharp one in a different place again so looks like I will be forming our 4th venous buttonhole.... Dialysis went well after a few hiccups with pressures early on - I am thinking because of all the poking around.

Trouble is we are limited for places to put needles in - the fistula is relatively short (about 4 inches in old measurements). Hopefully it won't crap out anytime soon - Sir is running out of places to have them.

I'm also now booked in for a colonoscopy in the next 3 months - see grace I can be brave! ;) The specialist also told me I should nag my brother to have one as well seeing men are more likely to get bowel cancer than women, especially if there's a family history. So will be keeping an eye on the mailbox for the letter to tell me when it's all happening

SPANKING for BANDIT:heart: will happen soon because of her self doubt in her ability, she decided it was all her fault even though I continued telling her she had done nothing wrong it was a problem with the damn fistula & had nothing to do with what she had done.

I have complete & total trust in her over any of the professionals at the hospital, she is my wonderful Wonder Woman ! :D

Yep, an MRI is when I found out that I was claustrophobic. I have a bunch of tricks for making them go better, I actually maked up a little booklet on it. If you'd like a copy next time, just pm. Keeping your eyes closed is better. My longest one was 1 hour and 45 minutes, I started hallucinating a bit during that one.

In the US, technicians are not allowed to tell you how things are on them. I usually ask to see mine and look to see if I see anything, sometimes I can see something on them, sometimes I miss stuff. We also don't usually hand carry our MRIs, and they get sent out to be read.

Have you heard anything yet?

Awesome. I'm so glad. And, like I said, I promise that the colonoscopy is just not that traumatic. Now small bowel follow through's are another matter. If I never have to drink barium again it will be too soon.

I'm stressing about tomorrow....hoping like hell the cannula goes in properly and I can form a new buttonhole without popping the fistula....I hate using sharps :(

Sir is very sore after speedway last night so He is back in bed until lunchtime. He also didn't come to bed until about 4am. Insomnia is a bitch

Sometimes He can sleep while dialysing (usually with the help of a few small cones) but the last couple of times He's been a bit wakeful  There's a radio, a TV and a DVD player in the room but He hardly ever uses the TV because it's painful for Him to sit propped up - we're thinking of getting a higher chest of drawers to put it on so it's easier to see (plus give us more storage space!)

Whew....it worked :)
I think I've earned a little nap this afternoon! :D
