The Official Authors' Hangout Valentine's Day 2018 Support Thread

So anyone here close to the lead?

If you mean 'Who has the highest rating?' we prefer that the information is NOT stated anywhere because it will attract a storm of 1 votes to reduce it.

The ratings become very volatile as the final sweeps of dubious votes are removed.

If you mean 'Anyone close to submitting a story?' then some of us are still trying. I've stopped at three entries although I have several more that might have been possible entries.

I think I saw daylight at the end of the tunnel on the one I was working. But, then it jumped the tracks. Trying my best to ignore it until 24 hours are up, then planning on giving it a hard read through to see if it's salvageable or if I should just flush around 300kb out of my harddrive and be content with the one I got up two days before I started on this drivel.

Never flush an incomplete story. Keep it in a folder. You might be able to use parts of it for ideas for new stories.

Even when storage was on 5.25 inch floppies I used to keep abandoned stories. Except for one, every story I ever started on a computer, dating back to CP/M systems, is now on my hard drive - and backed up.

The missing one still irritates me.

The ability to vote anonymously seems to me to destroy the credibility of the scoring system. <edited>

At least if they had to create an alt login it would slow them down.

Hi, I read the contest rules and noticed it said, "All submissions must be stand-alone stories created for this contest theme." Does that mean the submissions need to be valentines related, or that they need to be specifically written for this contest. I have a published Valentines book on Amazon and want to post it if it will qualify.

Thanks!
Yes, I also publish on Amazon, but assume there is no crossover between this site and Amazon, as the author’s name is different, the titles are sometimes subtly altered and even the content amended for a more restrained audience.

You might get accused of stealing your own story.

Just the one entry for me and, I fear, too late to make much of an impression. Definitely going to start an April Fool story now, or at least in a few days after I catch up on all the chores that have taken a back seat during the last few days’ drafting and editing!

Thanks, Ogg.

Despite common sense telling me to quit while I was ahead, I hit submit on "A Final Valentine" just moments ago. We'll see if Mistress Laurel withholds the flogging to let it pass. Or if I recover enough from catching up on checking my eyelids for cracks to give a shit and fix it in time if she kicks it back fro something I was too bleary to catch after completely rewriting the ending.

(Sorry, Yukon. If you wanna know what I changed, you'll just have to see if it posts. :p)

(ETA; And by the way, it's Yukon's fault I finished it and submitted it. So blame him.)

We've already established that if I'm to shoulder the blame if it plummets...all of your stars and accolades are to be passed to me when it soars. I'm feeling pretty confident myself  (Okay, to be honest. I think I established this after you passed out from exhaustion...but it seems fair to me :D )

You didn't read the fine print. I said, if they don't like it, I'll give you all the credit. Otherwise, I'll keep your name out of it and let all the blame fall on me. :D

And, you were right. I couldn't manage 48 hours after all. Best I could do was six. I had this idea for a story.

Oh, shut up! It's not funny!

(Ok, so it's a little funny. )

Well, I finished this silly little story finally. Now I have to decide if I'm brave enough to actually enter it! :D It's a fairly short read. I think it might appeal to a few of the Daddy's girls. It's pretty cheesy and not particularly "porny," but kind of cute. Most of the goodies I thought would end up in it, just didn't!
So, I'll go take a look at how to submit a story...

It's pretty straight forward. Drop it into the contests and enjoy the views. :)

Well I have a second story going live tomorrow but it's not Fields of Gold. Nowhere near enough done on that, I tried a short version but it wasn't designed for short and that didn't work so, alas, Fields of Gold is out of the running but I'm going to keep working on it.

So I submitted a cutesy little piece called "Hanky Panky" instead. EB should enjoy. Chinese Catholic schoolgirl. Altar. Gweilo. Need I say more.

I'm bummed. I've got a story I really want to submit. But it has one big flaw: it's not written yet. Well, not most of it, anyway. It's going to take some furious writing to finish it and get it in under the deadline.

Go for it!

Go for it!

I figured out how. I have another story that is much further along, and it was very easy to rework it as a Valentine's Day story. In retrospect I'm surprised I didn't do it that way from the start. I'll post that story tonight. I may or may not get the other story done, but at least I'll have one submission to the contest.

Well, I'm going for broke. It's not "Fields of Gold" (sobs piteously) but I'm shooting to get a third story in ("Camel Toe"). And of course it's about a nice Chinese girl.... and now, my fingers are twitching, I have refueled, I am caffeinated as fuck and back to writing furiously....

You go Simon, chasing those views. Attaboy ;).

You're as bad as Chloe. She valiantly tried to get her Apache helicopter war thing in, but it got the better of her. So what did she do? Resorted to one of her quick, tasty Chinese girls losing her first moment on the altar cloth with a gwailo boy. Shameless votes hound, shamelessly said I'd like it, too! The hussy.

So yours is another penguin tale? You know that always reels 'em in.

Meanwhile, mine's stalled. Views creeping up but votes have stopped coming in. It's well off the category front page now, so I'm yet to be convinced the contest generates much extra traffic. Mind you, a sample size of one is not scientific.

My god. SO shameless :).

This was many moons ago (like a decade at least), but I can recall a place that a literally had a waiver you had to sign for one particular one of their coffees, that your survivors could not sue them if you had a heart attack. I can't remember much, but I remember it started with a cup of their houseblend and then they added seven shots of Espresso.

Three times I can recall I forgot all about my car and ran back to work. Probably seems a little candy assed to you, though, Chloe.

Anyway, as far as VD, I guess I got my second slapped up too late for Mistress Laurel to work her way that far down the slush. Maybe tonight (as long I didn't fuck up, which is always possible.)

And I am fighting as hard as I can to keep myself from writing a third. I started it five times last night, made myself shut it down and delete it and walk away. And kept zombie-ing up to the keyboard.

But, damn it! It's two days to closing. I would have to be insane to try to start something now. Insane I tell you...
