How'd the cake turn out? I haven't used avocado in a dessert yet, but I want to. I've seen some interesting ones.

I've never made chicken meatballs. I should try that. I'm making meatballs for a get together on Saturday, and it's always more fun to do something a little different.

The cake was good, a little heavy, but delicious! It's a recipe we'll need to experiment with. We also used part cake flour and part Quest Protein Baking Mix to change up the macros and the cake didn't rise like we expected. We'll try it again and see if we can get it to be what we "envision".

I make lots of different meatballs...they make a good snack. I used ground chicken breast and oatmeal as a filler, very yummy! I also made a batch with bison and wheat germ.

You're an interesting cook. :)

I really should make more meatballs. You're right, it's good to have them on hand.

Jyes. :D ;)

But we'll start out light and save the heaviest food dishes for last. One bowl of good hearty ramen & rice for brunch would lay you out on the couch in digestive bliss until midnight! :D

I like the way we eat brunch and then you have me on your couch until midnight.

Tonight I used a butter chicken spice mix with chopped turkey, green beans and coconut cream to make dinner.
OMG yum!

I am an evil Dad:

I offered the Progeny a taste of a new mayo. He took some, his eyes watered immediately and he swore.

Did I forget to tell him it was horseradish mayo? I might have

Little snippet I just read that made me smile.

The History of 'APRONS'

I don't think our kids know what an apron is. The principle use of Grandma's apron was to protect the dress underneath because she only had a few. It was also because it was easier to wash aprons than dresses and aprons used less material. But along with that, it served as a potholder for removing hot pans from the oven.

It was wonderful for drying children's tears, and on occasion was even used for cleaning out dirty ears.

From the chicken coop, the apron was used for carrying eggs, fussy chicks, and sometimes half-hatched eggs to be finished in the warming oven.

When company came, those aprons were ideal hiding places for shy kids..

And when the weather was cold, Grandma wrapped it around her arms.

Those big old aprons wiped many a perspiring brow, bent over the hot wood stove.

Chips and kindling wood were brought into the kitchen in that apron.

From the garden, it carried all sorts of vegetables. After the peas had been shelled, it carried out the hulls.

In the fall, the apron was used to bring in apples that had fallen from the trees.

When unexpected company drove up the road, it was surprising how much furniture that old apron could dust in a matter of seconds.

When dinner was ready, Grandma walked out onto the porch, waved her apron, and the men folk knew it was time to come in from the fields to dinner.

It will be a long time before someone invents something that will replace that 'old-time apron' that served so many purposes.

Send this to those who would know (and love) the story about Grandma's aprons.

REMEMBER:

Grandma used to set her hot baked apple pies on the window sill to cool. Her granddaughters set theirs on the window sill to thaw.

They would go crazy now trying to figure out how many germs were on that apron.

I don't think I ever caught anything from an apron - but love

Try adding in another egg to the batter, that will lighten it up and make it rise without changing the flavor.

Thanks! Next time we'll try that. The batter was a bit runnier than is typical so I thought a bit more of the baking mix or cake flour, but an egg would help too.
Cool!! :)

Leftover pizza is excellent placed in a dry frying pan. Microwave to heat it up a little and then put it in the pan and the crust gets so nice and crispy like right out of the wood oven.

Aww. This is a great story. I like wearing an apron and nothing else.

I like warming it up on the grill!

I don't even bother with the microwave. Dry pan until the crust is crispy, then cover just long enough to melt the cheese and warm the toppings.
