there were things i wish i would've known when i was new to Lit. i had never been a part of the on-line community before and jumped in and sort of winged it.

any advice you want to give to the new members? post them here!

This could be a handbook of sorts LOL

Bumping as this is a great thread.

Only suggestions I have to make is if you are in a relationship with another Litster don't post your trials and tribulations here. The "lurkers" ususally from the GB will then really respond and that can make everything worse.

Have fun here, flirt here, post the good times, and this may sound off, and don't get your "undies in a bundle"by ANYTHING posted on the threads.. So much drama occurs when something is misunderstood.

As always, the wellrounded (in so many lusty ways) {{{{KAYTE}}}} has summed it up admirably.

As for the lurkers -- pay no nevermind. :D

do we get new people on Lit anymore??

we do but sadly they are always held suspicious cuz we think they might be an alt. sad but just reality

there you go...advice not to be offended if you dont feel welcome right away...just keep posting and be yourself and eventually trust will develop :rose:

Remember that screwdriver you're using to dismantle your PC after posting on 'Lit' belongs to Philip.

True.. seem to be so many of them of late.

I'd also add to beware of the people who offer endless hugs and talk as if they are Mother (or Father... depending on gender) Theresa. They are numerous and usually can be found posting them indicriminately and talking all cutsily or sympathetically. They are usually either predators or out for attention and ultimately want you to listen to THEM rather than offer any comfort to you. It's basically an 'in' with you.

Don't get me wrong... there are many people who ARE genuine out there, but there are a lot putting on a show also. Generally the more OTT or the least effort (just a hug or a pic) are the ones to watch out for. The ones in-between are usually genuine.

You'll know you have a successful thread when;

Twelve post to say you might share similar experiences, but you should have really worded your opening post differently because they can't understand you.

Seven post to caution about the dangers of wording your opening post differently.

Thirty post to point out the spelling/grammar errors in your opening post.

Seventy-five post to accuse the spell checkers of being ‘Grammar Police’ .

Six post to correct the spelling/grammar of the people that accused the people of being ‘Grammar Police‘.

Ninety post that your thread is not about spelling/grammar and to please take that discussion to the spelling/grammar thread in a sub-forum.

Fifty post to defend the posting of the spelling/grammar group saying that we all use spelling/grammar therefore the posts are relevant to the thread.

Twenty-seven post links to online spellcheckers.

Nine post to say that the links were posted incorrectly and post the corrected links.

Sixty-eight post to say they can no longer post on the board because they cannot handle the spelling/grammar controversy.

Four post to say "We've been through this. Kindly check the FAQ on how to do a search."

Three hundred post to ask, “What’s a FAQ?”

One posts to respond to your opening post from six months ago and inadvertently starts the spelling/grammar debate up all over again...

:D
