So way over there beyond the Big Water, the nations of Europe have formed the EU.

From what I've been seeing lo these many years, this will legally tie all the European countries into a single entity for purposes of trade, defense, politics, etc.

Forgive the crude analogy, but it'll basically make a Unites States out of them in the sense that it'll take formerly autonomous entities and link them together relatively firmly into one voice.

So when this is all done, how will we handle the formerly independent countries' participation in the UNited Nations? After all, if they are speaking with one voice through a central government doesn't that make them a single political entity. Otherwise, you're stacking the world deck vastly in favor of Europe and violating the long-standing political tradition of one voice, one vote.

Just some idle pondering as I happened to catch a bit of EU news here where they had been, quite ironically, protesting the US government's potential bailout of United Air Lines (which didn't happen anyhow).

one voice.
You put the Germans, French, Brits, Dutch in one pot. No. Not gonna happen. Just ask the Canadians.

Mean while, Spanish, Italians, Greeks, Portugese sleeps all day.

The Scandinavians just drink snaps and fuck.

The rest of Europe might as well pack it in.

You're an idiot.. you really truly are.

As for EU acting as one country and its role in the united nations.. if you extrapolate this further, you wonder if the un is just a united states in its infancy

we could be seeing a one world government in the not so distant future.

The EU is, and hopefully always will be, an umbrella organisation where all member nations keep their national sovereignity.

I see it more as a NATO that spans more than just defense and that's the way it seems to work.
I don't think it'd be possible to create a US of E due to history, all you have to do is ask someone from one nation what they think of certain others and off they go.Much like the Balkans but not as inflamed at the moment.
