Yahoo Messenger

I use Trillian basically all the time, when I'm online, because it lets me login to Yahoo, MSNM, ICQ and AIM at the same time in a single very compact and well organised list. The down side of Trillian, though, is very few of the higher features work properly, so I also have Yahoo, MSNM and ICQ installed. Each has its advantages.

ICQ is by far the best to handle large file transfers.

Yahoo has a cool interface and let's you bold and italicise fragments of your text, your messages can be longer than in MSN, and it lets you chat even when you're 'invisible'. It also has the best emotes, but with some limitations.

MSNM is slightly less functional than Yahoo, but has better image&sound, the file transfer interface works better than Yahoo's, has avatars of about the same size as Lit, and lets you add as many new emotes as you want (yes, including dirty ones, and the person you're sending them to doesn't have to do anything to see them)

Both Yahoo and MSN allow for conferencing with multiple users.

Yahoo does allow multiple users conferences with or without audio. I'm not sure about MSN. Never tried. :)

That too? My o my.

Oh yes. MUDs, MUSHes and MOOs in my dark and dirty past.

Well, how else do you think I learnt to cyber - Of course, we didn't call it cybering back then. Back in those days it was net.sex - Back then, everything that was related to the internet was net.something.

I can't help wondering though, why they don't shout about the ability to chat with people using a mike. I mean what a good selling point it would be for a start. Perhaps they have stakes in the phone companies and would be hurting themselves by giving it away.

Carl
Um, I always thought everyone knew about it.

(AOL, Yahoo and Microsoft may also assume the same thing)

I mean, when you open a yahoo window, it does have a big fat icon of a microphone right there in the menubar.

Yeah but we don't reach for Yahoo when we want to make a call, we reach for the phone. Yet we have to pay for that. It reminds me of the old beta and vhs battle, beta was clearly the best format yet vhs won. Why is that? Simple, because more money was pumped into the vhs format and beta went the way of the dodo.

Actually. I have a quite neat setup here. I DO reach for the phone, a special geek-o-phone that I borrowed from work. It plugs into my USB and is setup to launch ICQ on lfting.

Then I have the four contacts I use to call on speed dial. The only trouble is that it takes a while to program that way, and I'll have to do it again if I change stuff in the contact list.

Hi Lauren.
Been seeing a lot of that lately. Do I smell sweet romance (or just good old obsession) in the air? :p

Just some good old-fashioned stalking. :)

And I'm damn proud of it!

Not to worry Lauren I have no intentions of using my stalking as a means of later on trashing your name across the forums. I'll save that for a PM.

Alas I fear she's out of my reach, I am only a simple stalker. I like to look down her shirt in her AV's though:D
