Worst Song Ever

Usually when asked the worst song ever I will answer truthfully and correctly "Everything recorded after 1995" (that's when love songs died and were replaced with "Smack my Bitch Up") There's a lot of songs recorded just for humor sake that were never meant to be taken seriously (I hope that's the case with everything recorded by the New Kids on the Block) But earlier days had their share of garbage but the WORST THING EVER RECORDED by someone thinking it was actual music was

Rocky Racoon

I learned to hate the Beatles for that piece of garbage. So stupid, so simplistic, the vocals were as bad as the lyrics

"Now somewhere in the Black Mountain Hills of Dakota"

W.T.F.

Black Mountain Hills of Dakota?
Lil McGill = Nancy?
It goes on and on painfully, unmelodic brain numbing simplistic notes over and over with the DUMBEST lyrics ever written
This song alone proves beyond a doubt that Paul really did die
They also had "Yellow Submarine," one of Ringo's contributions. I'm sure that the two band survivors don't care what we think at this point.

Yeah, I saw them in concert in 1982. That video is so primitive; MTV was still new then. I'm impressed that your musical awareness stretches back that far. It would be like me crushing on Patti Page.
I like some 1980s stuff. Less manufactured.

If you want to get recherché, I like the string arrangement on the Terry Hall version.

I’m more of a classic girl, TBH.

Of bands still making new music?

  1. The National
  2. Vampire Weekend
  3. Wolf Alice (who I saw live in a pub in Cambridge years ago)
All of whom have some sort of retro vibe.

"There's a weapon that we must use
In our defense,
Silence."

It's actually a quite clever lyric, IMO.

I need to practice this one on the drums.

Fun, catchy, simple. Shouldn't take me long to figure out.
Terry Hall and Jane Wiedlin were screwing. The song is about their affair. It could almost be a Lit story, right?

Cue @AwkwardlySet calling me a [music trivia] nerd.

I just realized I’m coming over all Sheldon Cooper - I hate Sheldon fucking Cooper.

I quite like both versions of Our Lips Are Sealed, but Belinda Carlisle circa 1981 🥰.

I’d play in a fountain with her.

Em
Except, at 64, she doesn't look like that any longer. I'm not scoffing; at only four years older, I don't look like I did in 1981 either.

P.S.: The fountain is on Wilshire Boulevard in Los Angeles. I suspect the LAPD would be all over you if you tried to swim in it.

Didn't know that story.

For a pop song, I enjoy the unapologetic nature of it.

"Yes, we're fucking. No, we don't care what you think. Talk all you want, we don't care. We will neither confirm nor deny. Our lips are sealed."

Good on her.

That reminds me of the cover of Behind Blue Eyes from Limp Bizkit.

In that after hearing that blasphemous version, I never wanna hear it again.
I came across some little bimbo who thought that was the original. Fuck. Me. Dead. Blasphemy!

Well, let's see what we've got. I think Limp Bizkit was trying to do it straight, but I'm not sure if they are that great as a band. The Who version strikes me as a bit melodramatic, but they don't care a bit about what I think of them.
Gunhill, you do realise Pete Townshend wrote the song? It’s his blue eyes the song is on about.

OK - so what if Schrödinger’s punctuation is a superposition of the quantum states period and question mark.

Shit - Sheldon fucking Cooper again.

I had to go back and reread the sentence. Then I got the joke. Damn, I'm getting old.

Ooh, Wolf Alice! I found them a few years ago, and was not alone in crushing:

There was a crowd of about 200 and Ellie walked into me on her way to the bar. Accidentally of course,

A little-played early song, highlighting their acoustic roots (well Ellie and Joff’s anyway).

I also had a phase with The National. Probably peaked when I heard Matt Berninger singing on Game of Thrones. "I know that voice!" I said as it played during the episode. And indeed I did.
