At least where I am. Ritual switching from air conditioning to heating has commenced. One week it's 70 degrees and the next week it's in the 40s.

I blame global cooling.

The warm air is slowly getting here.

Yea for summer.

You stole my sun!

That's okay, I'm looking forward to winter, I love snow. I get to sit in my beautiful room with glass all around me and watch it fall like I'm in a reverse snow globe.

Ulaven has to drive through it, so bummer for him.

The weeds almost killed me this summer, but the crap is gonna be mulched outta those babies and next year...next year I'm going to win.

Corn should not grow in an herb garden because squirrels dragged it there from the bird feeder, methinks. Stupid squirrels. Stupid corn.

You're welcome to the snow. Doesn't snow where I live.

However, Australia and NZ are squirreless.

I want your squirrels.

I know I'm supposed to dislike the squirrels, but I think they're cool. There's a pole with suspension hooks for birdfeeders and it's supposed to discourage squirrels, but they are not discouraged. They get up onto the feeders by jumping from shrub to shrub and then leaping, clinging to a side of a wire-mesh birdfeeder with Spiderman-like grace and squirrel-like silliness.

You guys have those big toads that are icky, right? Not the same. Everybody should have some squirrels, they are industrious and funny and I won't trim the shrubs to foil them.

You're also overrun with predatory bunnies stripping the already fragile ecosystem of green stuff, if I recall? Bummer. Bunnies are just cute here and not an environmental menace.

I think we will have a Fall first...

;) ;)

If only there were a short social meme to indicate that fall is almost here.

Someone's going to have to write a blockbuster set of books and then turn it into an HBO series before that can happen. Maybe in a few years I'll be saying "The Weak Fear Fall" because it's something some vampire said once.

Yep, I live in the land of cane toads. When I was on holiday way up north in the tropics we stayed in a lovely resort...however, after the late afternoon rain, and just on dark the gardens starting moving. Like really moving. They were everywhere.

They are gross and disgusting and if your dog goes after one they get sick. I do my bit to kill them - when I go hunting for them in my garden I have my hand in a supermarket bag, when I find one, I grab the it ,flick the bag inside out, tie a knot and pop it in the freezer for a wee sleep-sleep. I think this is the most humane death I can come up with it - short of bashing it's brains out with a brick.

Yeah, rabbits are a shocking pest. At the state border between NSW and Qld there is a big sign proclaiming it is an offense to keep rabbits in Qld. But the NSW rabbits must be illiterate because we still get them in Qld.

It has been a cool summer with ample rainfall.

I am looking forward to the colors.

Our only real concern here is a deer tick that can give humans and pets Lyme disease. It's nasty because it can give progressively vicious neurological and physical problems, but it only presents like the flu and unless you find the bite with the bullseye pattern around it, most people don't know they're sick.

Our dog tests positive every year and we have to go through a battery of tests to prove every year that it's a false positive. If she ever actually gets symptomatic Lyme disease I probably won't believe it.

It was 96 degrees here yesterday.

I did love Florida, but I also really love the seasons. I always missed the falling leaves that the Northeast is so famous for providing.

All my scarlet maples and Japanese maples and beautiful trees in the yard are going to start turning bright orange and deep russet and shocking yellow and rich red.

Yes, last year we got here after the leaves had hit their peak, then there was a hurricane and lots of dead trees. Hoping for a more leisurely appreciation of the fall this year.

Swap ya some parrots for the squirrels?

I would love some parrots!

We could swap varieties. The blue jays here are bullies, You can have some of those too. The woodpeckers are very cool and we could spare a few.

I was sad to hear that you guys have no hummingbirds.

No thanks.

Already have a parakeet and the little shit drives me crazy with its shrieking and it just won't fucking die already...

I've been a dog, cat and various cute vermin owner. Hamsters are a favorite to look at, but they're vicious little bastards that just want to bite me and get away. The pet relationship was not there and I can't own them anymore because it seems mean. Cats and dogs can choose to hang out with you and think that's cool.

I've never had a bird relationship, but again the cage concept and the poop everywhere otherwise concept keeps me from wanting to build one, even with a really entertaining, smart bird that I could teach to say naughty things.

You would think that it would be cool to have them flying around.

Tried that. Wherever they land, they just chew and poop.

The snake is a much better pet...

... /exhibit.

I like snakes and when I was a teen I had a friend who had one and we'd bring him/her/it along on her paper route.

They seem pretty chill and won't even constrict your child to death if you have the right kind that just eats crickets and sleeps.

We also have platys.

They seem to like the size of the tank, the food and the rocks and fake plants because six is now sixty...
