Winter Holiday Support Thread

I think they are East Coast based. I see things dated one day and it is nine o:clock the previous evening here. Right now it's 7:41 AM.

Some votes were swept from mine and the score went up to 4.48. Better, but not a contender.
Actually, whois says Vegas.

Okay, it's still early.
Just playing man...
as anyone can see I can't type or spell at any time morning or night
Just thought if you had a '7' we're all really screwed.......

They are still sweeping, I just had a bunch of votes swept...raised the scores.

Emotional roller coaster, ain't it.

Yeah I think they are all sadists...
Wouldn't be needed if everyone voted honestly. Alas.

I have some ideas on that, but I'll post it as a thread after the contest is over, probably in January.

That should cause some controversy considering some of the chit that has been going on in here. I learned...I look, I read, shake my head sadly and go back to work on my next project.

Voting should be done on basis of writing skill, content, not on whether that person is your friend or you want to get even or even want to win. Golden rule should always apply, I'd rather give an honest comment and not vote then to hurt someone's score because I don't happen to like what they write about.

i wonder if authors would be willing to put up entries for special contests like this without their names? Still get votes, feedback, things of that nature, but it would be harder for personal trolls to seek you out.

Sounds good, but maybe that would trigger a "I think that's ___" controversy. Most of us have a particular style of writing, as individual as a fingerprint or bite pattern. The guessing games, I think, would drive the crazy even crazier and chaos would reign.

That's one of the best and most reasonable and more easlily implemented suggestions I have heard.1
Good Suggestion Ent.

Each Author could be given a randomly generated Anon number. That might work?

I concur Ent. A idea of merit.

Also, a person must be registered user to vote, and each user can vote up or down on just one story. Just like a real election (before Diebold :) )

IP numbers can put some control on people creating multiple Alts just for voting purposes.

Something like that, maybe... And each story they submitted would have that number instead of their name on it, just until the contest is over.

You'd never stop the authors from identifying themselves, though -- in threads such as this one.

It would be interesting to try it.
