The report states that he was killed by force.It's all right there in the Coroner's Report.
Revisiting the quote you lifted out of the report. First of all that was added to the report after the fact and it is alleged that that addition was done so under duress from the prosecution. Be that as it may, the problem remains that that quote is an OPINION rendered by the Coroner and OPINIONS are subjective. There is NO science in the report that supports that opinion, none. And just as you jumped on it as being substantive I can imagine a jury being swayed on an emotionally charged case.
Further, the police training officer perjured herself when testifying that that from of restraint ISN'T taught in the academy. That is an out and out lie, it is a basic method of controlling a resisting arrestee.
Polyshitforbrains points out that the verdict survived appeal. Of course it did. Without glaring errors in the trial no appellate court is going to overturn jury's verdict. It is not the appellate courts job to retry the case on evidence.
The coroner reiterated that during his testimony.
Further testing during appeals confirmed this.
He was convicted and properly sentenced.
