Because people still think it's funny when a girl slaps a guy for no reason.

Because while women are raising holy hell about the right to control their own bodies, Selective Service blatantly and openly deprives men of this right. And you could nuke a major American city without ever harming one woman who has ever cared.

Because Saturday Night Live thought it was funny when Tiger Woods got physically assaulted by his wife. Yet the U.S. Terror Alert was raised to blood red when Chris Brown pounded Rihanna.

When a woman is on the verge of suicide, the whole community rises to help her. Whereas with a man, everyone but his own mother is eager to catch his swan dive on video.

A woman in distress will find 50 men falling all over themselves to help her. A man in distress is all on his own - if he's lucky. (How many women have you ever seen swarm a guy's car to fix his flat tire?)

Because men are not allowed to protest injustice against men, but women are allowed to protest injustice against women.

I would rush to your car to fix a flat tire, but if I did, I suggest you don't drive on it. I think we all need to care more about each other - male or female.

Life's tough, suck it up Cupcake.

That is an ideal world.

I knew a man who had been taught his whole life you never hit a lady. So when his wife was mental and beat on him he wouldn't even defend himself. She was about the same size as him and strong. With the stigma there was really no place for him to go for help. That has got to change. It's not right for anyone to be hit, male or female.

We have the picture in our heads of the old damsels in distress who needed rescuing and the knight who took care of everything. That's not true. It's only in the fairy tales. People, male and female, are going through a lot these days. We all need each other. If it did happen it would be ideal. :)

Who says it's okay for a woman to hit anyone?

I'm whispering here just in case you want to go up to your post^^^^and change that you thought it was funny.

A woman slapping someone like the LJ for no reason is funny. A man slapping him would be more funny.

A woman slapping someone in the context of domestic violence or abuse or some kind is not funny.

Does this LJ require slapping? People often find humor in pain.

Sure, context is everything. My son was smacked by his stepmother when he was 16 years old. He's been taught all his life hitting (of any kind) was wrong.

That's the only reason I didn't knock down their door and kick the shit out of the bug-eyed bitch. But I sure wanted to.

That woman or that man being promptly shot in the face in response would be fucking hilarious.

If for no other reason that it would make chivalrybots like you howl with rage.

He believes I deserve to be slapped because I stand up for men's rights.

He deserves to be shot.

Two can play this game. Nobody around here seems to have figured that out yet.

These threads remind me of Cade's or Busybody's threads lamenting the lack of White advocacy groups.

No doubt there are incidents of racism against Whites just as no doubt there are incidents of sexism against men. And no doubt racism and sexism should not be accepted, regardless of race and regardless of gender.

But to suggest Whites are systemically disadvantaged in America is ludicrous. Ditto males.

Who wants a peanut?

I can think of a couple of reasons for mens rights groups -
1. To support men who are separated from their children and despite paying huge amounts of child support never get to see their children, and
2. To help men who have been duped into believing a child is theirs when it isn't.

Both of those scenarios have been in the media here increasingly, and the men have been the ones who end up losing, emotionally and financially.

I'll buy that. And both of those instances are premised on gender stereotypes that presume a woman's proper place is in the nursery.

In one recently reported case, a couple separated soon after their child was born.
The father paid massive amounts of child support for over ten years, despite only being given access to his child once or twice a year during that time.
He took the mother to court for more regular access, and the court ordered DNA testing as part of it's disclosure.
The child turned out not to be his.
He then asked the court to order the return of almost $300,000 in child support and was awarded just $25,000.

In no way can anyone see this outcome as fair.

Men need an advocacy/support network for situation such as this. Currently, they have nothing.
Did I mention that he also had to pay all the court costs?

3) Domestic violence, too. Perhaps you did not view that Saturday Night Live link I posted where they made jokes about a man being beaten with a golf club?

4) Male bashing.

I don't agree.
There are already laws against violence that apply equally to both men and women.
The only thing needed there is for men to begin standing up for their right not to be beaten, just like women do.

But the law is poorly enforced when it comes to male victims of DV.

And people make jokes about men who are abused. Openly. Shamelessly. On television. Dear God, you really believe this isn't happening? I cited an example. How much more must I do to show that domestic violence against men is made light of in America? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5BVXiHh95Tc

The people who make the jokes are predominantly men.
Your own male culture of machismo works against you here.
Who wants to be the man who stands up and gets ridiculed for 'allowing' a woman to beat up on him?

Change the attitude, and you begin to change the outcome - using laws that already exist.

Really? Perhaps you'd like to watch this before you stand pat on that?

Now, the Patriarchal society does treat men like disposable assets. But I'm not sure what to replace them with. Replacing them with a matriarchy is sure as hell not the answer.

You choose one instance of women ridiculing men, and hold it up as an example?
Fail.

And let's not forget, it was the patriarchal societal norm to allow women to be used and abused for so long.

Just because women finally made a stand, you want to use that as an excuse for men who see it as 'weak' to use the existing laws to protect themselves against violence from women?
Like I said, change the attitude about being all manly and shit. The laws are in place.
You can't blame anyone but yourselves for not using them.
