Why the Department of Education?

Nobody was ever going to "debate" you or engage you. You were used as an example. A bad one.

This is where the standard-issue troll declares "victory"

and then wonders how the hell "he" won...

If the Department of Education is such a good idea and works well, why is the United States so far behind other countries on schooling metrics?
Because the DoE merely exists. County boards run the schools. Those other countries have a national ministry that runs them.

"The Department of Education should be abolished." That seems to be one of those definitional things any Republican or conservative HAS to say.

But nobody ever seems to mention what objectionable things that department is doing.

Because it makes sense.

They're sucking up money and not producing any value.

They're like that useless subscription service you forgot about, don't use, but are still paying for.

The Department of Education has only been around since 1980, so it's not one of the essential departments of the federal government. Education is run at the state level. Has its existence done much to improve the quality of education in the US, enough to justify a $68 billion annual budget? Probably not. Probably, that spending has been in part responsible for the dramatic increase in the cost of education since 1980. My guess is if you got rid of it there would be a negligible impact on education in the US over time.

So you fully admit the DoE merely exists and isn't needed to just eat taxpayer dollars.

Welcome to the Trump train! 👍

See post #8. It does things, but not enough. It needs to be expanded to replace the local school districts.

No, get rid of the DoE and let parents decide which local school districts are doing a good job or not with their children.

The federal government has no business dictating education policy to the states. Especially to push radical left wing policy goals that violate the moral codes of millions of Americans.

It never has done that. See post #8.

 "School choice" smacks of 1960s "segregation academies."
Last time I checked, it was the lefties promoting segregation and trying to remove laws against it, so they can create those 'safe spaces' for minorities.
