Why is unemployment in Australia at 5.3% if their minimum wage is $16.43 in USD?

I thought raising the minimum wage caused high unemployment.

Australia is below the equator. The excessive gravitational pull below the equator pulls the unemployment rate down.

Plus, they don't have a negar prime minister

Is that how gravity works? I always find it confusing that we're walking on a really big ball and I wonder if I could start running fast enough to spin all the rest of you fucks off it like an enormous log.

Uh, let's see...

fewer people?

less illegal aliens?

fewer stupid politicians?

stronger work ethic?

...to mention a few.

On 26 July 2013 at 05:27:20 AM (Canberra time), the resident population of Australia is projected to be:

23,127,826

313.9 million (2012)

Those figures are fudged

Anyone who is unemployed but a student doesn't count.

Anyone unemployed but on some type of disability payment doesn't count.

And if you're holding down a casual, shift job, and only get two shifts a week, it doesn't count.

And that minimum wage is the adult award rate. If you're 16 or under the rate is $6.03, scaling up yearly until you reach the adult age (over 21, which is stupid cos in every other area, you're an adult at 18 here)

More proof that Merc doesn't know what he's talking about. No news to anyone really.

Even if you say it enough times, it still isn't true.

same reason TX is doing well

that's why Obama wants to CLOSE IT OFF

he would rather have peeps on WELFARE

Did you miss the bit that says people actively looking for work are counted as employed??

In what way does looking for work actually count as having a job?

Same as in US figures.

Basically the same as in the US because we can pay teenagers less as well.

Our unemployment rate says there is 5.4% of the population physically and legally capable of working, aren't studying ....

AND DON'T WANT TO WORK

How is that good?

Good point I guess.

Oh, no wait. That's utter bullshit. Once Australian kids turn 17 they make more than US minimum wage, $7.74 per hour. At age 20 your minimum wage is more than twice ours at $16.00/hr.

(aussie dollars are almost the same as US dollars ~94 US cents)
