Why I hate foreigners who assume too much about the US without knowing shit about it!

Re: Re: Re: isnt our country GOOD though

I can't believe that some of you people took this thread seriously.

I love foreigners.

I, myself, am one to many people. To more people than not.

What a hypocrite I'd be if I hated foreign people, and thought that they all thought this way. The US has a lot of foreign support. I am not being at all serious in this.

I did this as a parody of how some of our better nutcases here at lit rant about the US.

So we should put all our faith in a STATE RUN media like the BBC or the CBC? Yes, let's talk propoganda........

Rose

Now come on. The BBC is state supported but not state run. Attempts have been made to exert a subtle influence on it and it has always resulted in scandal and loss of face. The License fee (effectively a charge for owning a TV) pays for the BBC and is supported by law. That is the extent of direct government control. And propaganda? What would be the point of using the BBC? Most of its programming is light entertainment, often bought in from the US networks. Most of our news media (Sky and several major newspapers) is owned by a certain Rupert Murdoch. What kind of passport does he hold?

And if you are going to attack a well respected institution in one of your most long standing allies, you have a fighting head on. Hold your breath and count to ten.

We all good now?

Please have a bit of a bitching session so that I can have an excuse to post a bit more. These last 50 posts between me and getting rid of my inapprpriate 'guruhood' go pretty cheap.

So anyone ranting about the US is a nutcase?
I think you were serious and you are chickening out now.

Chickening out? And posting as Unregistered is brave?
Har har.

Look, If I had anything against people outside the US, would I spend my time painting images like this one....

Sorry about clarity, but this is of a Buddist monk meditating in the courtyard of a Hindu market.

Why would I take the time to spend half of my college education learning about foreign cultures if I was a bigot to them?

Why would I learn Chinese caligraphy, if I had no appreciation for other cultures?

Why would I paint the French Village of Aups, where I have NEVER been, if I hate the people of these countries?

I wouldn't... But since I do.... You can suck my asshole. :p

If you want the truth about the ranting about the US.... It gets old. I find it a bore. I think it is pathetic, yes. Most of it, like this thread, is overgeneralized, underjustified crap rants, with no moral backing.

That is why you won't see me posting this kind of inane blather on a serious thread about US/Foreign relations. I don't mean it.

Believe it.... or not.

I love America. I sure don't like Bush. He massacres the English language. Tell Bush the Arabs are not the Red Injuns of old.

I'm no Ayrab.

"if I could paint like that, I wouldn't give two shits that I couldn't spell. "

HOLY CRAP LIONESS! You only have 28 posts and you are about to make it on to my sig line! This made me chuckle quite hard, yes. You get a big..... WHOOOOOOOO HOOOOOOOO!!!

I am very very flattered by your opinion of my art shown here.
Wow. I am blushing actually.

The one you like most is watercolor. The proud owner of that painting is Lit's own Rubyfruit. There is an acrylic that she owns too. I go between watercolor and acrylic work. If you like these and want to see more, click the little www. button below my sig line. It will take you to my website. To see the other painting Ruby own's, go to Starfish's galleries, then the Acrylic gallery, and then scan down to the one and only protrait there. So far. ;)

If I had to pick one singular flaw in America, and only one - setting aside all my opinions and all the factual data I have read - I would pick this:

Americans are notoriously inept at taking criticism/engaging in a critical discussion. As soon as they hear criticism, they go into cerebral lockdown and start bad-mouthing the opposing party, spewing all manner of rhetoric.

In my experience, in any other Western country you can rip right into the nation and your counterpart will discuss with you, regardless of their point of view.

All too often on visits/work in the States, any marginal criticism in a conversation with a stranger at a bar/cafe/party is immediately met with "You don't like it? Then LEAVE!"

wow, starfish, you're a very talented person. art is my hobby too. i do abstracts. i like Dali's style (and madness).

and now for something completely different....

Language Buddy sez:

the (spoken) Chinese language is actually two separate languages: Mandarin and Cantonese. it's been like that for thousands of years. if one Chinese person is speaking Mandarin, someone who only knows Cantonese wouldn't have a fucking clue as to what the first is saying. unless he wrote it down, that is. you see, way back between 221-210 b.c.e., having just conquered all of China to form the first dynasty, the Qin, the Chinese Emperor Ying Zheng standardized the written language used throught the land. both cantonese and mandarin use the same kanji (symbols), and they mean the same thing in both languages. so while the two guys above might not be able to verbally talk to each other, they can email and IM each other up a storm.

strange but true.

(if there's more than just the two languages out there, then i'm sorry for ommitting them. mandarin and cantonese are the two i know of currently)

The problem Coolville...

Is forming an opinion on Americans/America based on European standards that are far removed from our historical foundations. For instance, Denmark's Constitutional authority;

The Constitution does not specify how a government should be formed. Formally the government is appointed by the monarch, but in practice a government is formed on the basis of often complicated negotiations among the parties, in order to find a constellation which does not have a majority against it. In other words, a government is not required to have the confirmed support of a majority. That is one reason why a minority government is the usual outcome of government negotiations in Denmark.

The Prime Minister himself chooses the number of ministers and ministries. The current Government has 21 ministries. The Minister is the chief political and administrative head of the Ministry. Denmark does not have deputy ministers or secretaries of state. The Minister has sole responsibility for the Ministry and can be called to account for his and the Ministry’s discharge of their duties, politically by the Folketing, for instance, through votes of criticism, reprimand or no confidence, and judicially by a specially appointed Court of Impeachment.

Supervision and control of central administration – and from 1996 also local administration – is undertaken by the Ombudsman institution, established in 1955. Citizens can complain to the Ombudsman about the administration’s handling of cases. The Ombudsman may on his own initiative investigate whether the administration has complied with existing legislation. He may not undo its decisions, but his statements carry great weight with the administration. The Ombudsman is chosen by the Folketing after every election.

See? Has your Prime Minister been a fighter pilot? Then how can anyone make a statement about my President's mental condition? You have no concept of how possessive we are of what is ours, and uniquely American. Besides, your national flag has too much yellow in it!
:D

I love it when other people make my point for me.
Makes it so much easier.
I rest my case.

good post.
There are two main languages, as you mentioned. But there are, like many countries, countless dialects. So even learning one of the languages (mission impossible, by the way) screws you up an hour down the river.

and then there is the fascinating system the Chinese have for numbers, using their fingers. Because of the differences in dialect. Nevermind, though, once you learn 1-10, you go down the river to the next region and they have another finger signing system. Frustrating but true. It drove me crazy.

And don't forget the Uighur region in Xianxiang Province in the west. Arabic in origin, the Uighurs have their own Arabic dialect. (which the Chinese are desperately trying to annihilate, along with their culture)

And you're not, your just fat as evidenced by your rikishi ass.

Starfish saying this post is meant as a joke is a cop out. You meant all you said so don't back out of it now.

As for your art work, it's really easy to copy from pictures and do paint by numbers isn't it? I'd be careful about posting artwork that has been stolen from elsewhere.

Suck up to the weirdo, go for it. Maybe she'll ask you to suck her ass too! yum
