Dear Editors,

I have tried to submit two stories to your site for the past week. The first involved celebrity nonconsent. You rejected it on the grounds that "for legal reasons, we cannot accept stories with celebrity nonconsent." Yet when I came to this board, I was told by one of your editors that you can and do publish stories with celebrity nonconsent, and that all I would need was a disclaimer.

Therefore, I posted not one but two disclaimers. One I created on my own, the other I do drew from the disclaimer another author posted for his celebrity nonconsent story, WHICH CAN BE FOUND ON YOUR SITE, and is titled "Kidnapping Jenny McCarthy." On top of that, I apologized for my story and sent you a very nice message in the notes, saying that I hoped the disclaimers would be enough.

However, you REJECTED MY STORY AGAIN, for the same reason, despite all the disclaimers, the assurances of an editor on this board that it could be published and that you do publish such stories, and the example of another story that appears on your site involving CELEBRITY NONCONSENT, the very thing you claim you cannot publish for legal reasons. I suppose my disclaimers didn't even matter. Did you even care?

I also submitted a second story, which although was remarkably similar to the first, had NO CELEBRITIES INVOLVED. Instead, I invented names for the people. Not only did you not accept this, BUT YOU ERASED IT. The submission is no longer to be found in my profile, although I KNOW I SUBMITTED IT. So not only did you reject my first story twice on the same grounds, despite my TWO DISCLAIMERS (last I checked, "Kidnapping Jenny McCarthy had only one disclaimer, and you accepted it), but YOU ERASED MY SECOND STORY ENTIRELY, WHICH DID NOT INVOLVE CELEB NONCONSENT, but was instead purely a nonconsent story.

So please tell me WHAT IS GOING ON. WHY HAVE YOU DONE THIS?

I can attach either of my stories, with their disclaimers, to this post, if necessary.

WHY HAVE YOU DONE THIS?!!!

A note to anybody checking this out:

I have now resubmitted both stories to you again, so if you were to look in my profile at this time you would find them there. However, before I resubmitted them this morning, my first story was rejected again for the same reasons despite my two disclaimers (please see message above), and my second story, which did not even involve celeb nonconsent, HAD BEEN ERASED ENTIRELY, as if I had never submitted it in the first place.

Why all this? Please just tell me what is going on.

Also please explain why you accepted the celeb nonconsent story "Kidnapping Jenny McCarthy" from another author (with only one disclaimer) but have done what you did to my TWO stories, despite my TWO disclaimers.

I suggest you PM or email Laurel and ask nicely for an explaination. :)

I would have to agree.

You will get more bees from honey than with vingear.

If you do not know what that means is ask sweetly about why my stories were not accepted? She might tell you that Jenny McCarthy might have a policy about people writing fan fiction about her.

Just a suggestion.

When Lit first started up Laurel was pretty pleased to get anything. She took celeb/real person non-consent along with everything else.

Lately they've gone and seen a lawyer (you just can't do business without one anymore, even a free service). They no longer accept celeb/real person non-consent. While these things are not illegal to write and Lit shouldn't get in trouble for posting them, they believe that--like stories featuring minors--there are enough sites that accept this content that they aren't shortchanging anyone by not posting it.

There are still celeb/real person stories in the archives because with 15,000ish stories it takes time to weed them out. If you are aware of any, please PM Laurel with the link.

I think I've got that right.

:)

Two comments from a non-editor:

1. Yahoo groups provide small but numerous and very enthusiastic audiences for celeberity fiction of all sorts. There are two kinds of group you might enjoy posting your stories in: the generic or specific Celeb Kidnapping groups, of which there are dozens, and the Celeb fan fiction or "fan fic" for short.

Go to: http://groups.yahoo.com/ and search under your Celeb's name for these kinds of groups. If you don't find exactly what you want, going a few generic groups that are for that celeb and then look in the groups' Links sections will often turn up the kind of group you're looking for.

2. I had a story disappear from my list too. But I got an email explaining why: they were sending it over to the "Extreme" site for publication. Maybe that is where one of yours ended up?

Click the "Extreme" link under the Lit story categories to check for it.

Thank you all for your advice and helpful tips. I am especially grateful to UCE for the suggestions provided, and am reassured by KillerMuffin's explications.

This matter has been put into perspective and I have taken the proper steps, as well as conferring with Laurel.
