Why does anyone NEED an assault rifle?

Because the anti gun crowd hates guns so much they'd rather school shooting continue than make sure schools are protected by armed law abiding citizens.
Yup, arm those teachers that you won't even trust to teach history or explain the contents of library books. Or have cops that run away from a real school shooting.

The Texas bright idea of the day is to make kids carry bullet-proof protection and help triage their shot friends. Then they can give counselling for PTSD to the survivors.

It's working well for you. The kids, not so much.

So incompetent government run schools and government funded cowardly police won't protect our kids.

Sounds like rock solid arguments for private/home schooling and citizens accepting the fact they need to take their personal and family safety into their own hands. I whole heartedly endorse both those ideas.

Of course you could try living in a safer part of the world where people aren't supposed to shoot up the schools or delivery workers knocking on doors.

One of the first important steps to make a safer world: ensure law abiding citizens aren't defenseless against criminals and criminals don't have unfair advantages over everyone else.

The rest of the world does not agree with the NRA (which bans guns from its own conferences, how dangerous is that?).

If dumb people care about the NRA, guess that explains you bringing them up. 🤣
Erm, it was you that said that anti-gun people want school shootings to continue.

That has to rank right up there. Sad.
Every accusation is a confession, for a MAGA.

How would that work specifically? How many armed law abiding citizens do we need to protect our kids in school? Who will pay them to stand around school waiting for some idiot to come attack it? Maybe law abiding gun owners may do that pro bono for a day or two but they have families to feed and bills to pay too-so who's going to pay them for that-because I'd rather school boards spend their budget on teaching children instead. So who would pay them? Would it come from the police budget? Again I'd rather them use that on hiring more policemen and catching the sort of person who'd do such a thing before they get anywhere close to a school. So you tell me-how will we pay them?

If we can afford to pay to protect politicians in public areas, we can certainly afford to pay to protect our kids.

If finding the money is an issue, we can start by taking it out of politician salaries. If the politicians complain, we'll just tell them to label the expense "international military funding assistance", and suddenly the supply of money will be unlimited. Hundreds of billions of dollars will suddenly available, and we'll never hear "Not within our budget" excuse, which only applies to things like education funding, health care, domestic public expenses, etc.

I could get behind that, but the same thing applies to the struggle to pass infrastructure legislation.

One side will clutch their pearls saying, "But the deficit, and we need to cut down on wasteful government spending."

I'd totally dare politicians to publicly claim funding the protection of children as "wasteful government spending."

They won't have to. They'll find something in the provisions and totally blow it out of proportion and claim its part of this or that liberal woke agenda and that's why they'll never vote for it and it won't hurt them at all, in fact it would only help them raise campaign donations ad media interviews and all that. All positives and the only negatives is on the unprotected children that everybody forgot this legislation was all about.

Of course this is largely helped by the geniuses in washington that can never let anything pass clean. They have to tack on a ton of unrelated shit to these things.

Sounds like that we're in complete agreement that not only does government action kill a lot of people, but government inaction also kills a lot of people, including children.

Yeah no matter how we slice it-we're fucked.

Hence why I'm strongly in favour of every citizen having the rights and the tools to protect themselves, their families and their community.

If someone thinks the government is their savior/protector, some simple history lessons are in order. Can start with easy ones, like the German government in the 1930's and 40's.

Example:

Wikipedia: "In early 1930s Germany, few citizens owned, or were entitled to own firearms,[2] the Weimar Republic having strict gun control laws.[8] When the Nazi party gained power, some aspects of gun regulation were loosened for Nazi party members only.[5]: 672  The laws were tightened in other ways, such as specifically banning ownership of guns by Jews. Nazi laws systematically disarmed so-called "unreliable" persons, especially Jews while relaxing restrictions for Nazi party members.[5]: 670, 676  The policies were later expanded to include the confiscation of arms in occupied countries."

What part of no matter how we slice it-we're fucked was so difficult to comprehend?

Whether it's gov't/society or every man or woman for themselves-we are so totally fucked.

Besides there's no end to the paranoia of the citizenry when it becomes all on their shoulders to protect themselves. It'll devolve into an arms race with the imaginary attackers they might have to defend themselves from. We need government to ensure a safe and secure and just society otherwise it'll be every citizen for themselves.

But they banned lawn darts after only 3 people were killed. I want my fucking lawn darts!

I'll take fighting a crazy citizen out to get me with rights and tools at my disposal, over having my rights and tools taken away by a crazy government out to get me. That's not even a hard choice whatsoever.

The girl whose death was the final straw for lawn darts in the U.S. got impaled not far from here.

Was a freak accident but yeah, that shit was dangerous.
