Because orgasm is not that simple for us women, we can enjoy sex and foreplay even without reaching an orgasm. Unlike guys who carry on until they reach an orgasm and then stop, we may have more than one orgasm and still continue or have none for a log time. It all depends on the mood, situation and the partner. Sometimes its just to impossible to achieve one. Guys do put a lot of importance to giving an orgasm, some can't look past irrespective of what you tell them. So, it's just easier to fake an orgasm & make him feel his work did not go to waste.

This brings something to my mind. I understand that often the enjoyment of an orgasm depends on several things, such as how mentally you are aroused, the type and amount of foreplay, the length of time between your previous orgasm, etc. Speaking as a male, when I have an orgasm it is pretty much all or nothing type of experience. I don't have varying degrees of intensity orgasms such as small, big, long, short ( I guess theoretically I can count the number of spurts/contractions to determine how big but interested in purely the feeling not numerical counts). For the great females on here, is there a difference when you have an orgasm through intercourse vs oral vs fingers? On the other hand, is it similar to us guys where orgasms are all good and just the feeling of an orgasm is basically the same?
