No British casualty by enermy fire yet.

Sixteen killed in accidents.

Patriot shot down British plane.

LOL

we're still mad they burnt down the whitehouse back in the war of 1812. that, and they have better music. we'll never forgive great britian for that.

ITV war reporter is shot dead by Americans too. The cameraman and the translator is missing too.

For the same reason they bombed Canadian troops in Afghanistan.

Gung-ho attitude.

Time will tell what really happened. Sooner or later another power will stand up and make them accountable.

Word is, that it was either a malfunction in the Tornado's Friend or Foe system, or that it wasn't turned on. It could just as well be that it was a malfunction in the Patriot missile as well.

There's a big difference between something intentional and an accident.

There is carelessness. Conveniently laebelled accidental.

And on the front lines, being in harms way, people tend to take no chances. Carelessness gets you killed just as easily as hesitation.

Now if it is found that the transponder wasn't turned on in the Tornado, that is a form of carelessness. But it doesn't belittle the fact that everyone is trying their best.

I don't deny that they're all trying their best.

I'm just aching for it all to stop.

The voice of the girl being questioned by Iraqis is stuck in my minnd - she sounded so terrified but totally contrilled. It was the most chilling thing.

It is carelessness, but just how many Iraqi aircraft are in the sky? A number slightly less than 1.

We don't know anything yet. Speculation proves nothing.

Here's what I initially said:

Incoming jets and incoming missiles don't show up any differently if Friend or Foe is not active.

I got my "speculation" from MSNBC, CNN, and Reuters as well as from email from a friend in the 108th ADA who heard the same thing from some Brits he's working with. It is "speculation"...I never quoted hard facts. In fact, I said that the Patriot may have malfunctioned.

Sorry Bob, wasn't meaning to get at you, just getting fed up with so many theories flying about in the press.

Wasn't that part of the excuse when the Canadians were killed in Afghanistan?

They need to learn to find the on button, and fast.

Friend or Foe works well when used. Each friendly jet has a sytem that identifies it as friend or foe. Patriot missiles are designed not to fire on a "friend"...as long as the transponder in the jet is turned on.

Put yourself in the shoes of a Patriot crewman that sees some incoming blips, and they aren't identified as "friend"...what do you do if your standing order is to shoot anything that is not identified as "friend"?

Yes, but wasn't it established that the pilots were warned not to attack by their seniors?

Again?

Possibly some new training measures should be instituted for pilots going into combat.
