Deosn't this sound more like a world-wide problem since all preists answer to Rome?

What about the Preists in Mexico, France, Brazil..?

These priests who like boytoys have been constantly in the press for many years, sin. All over the world.

The American Catholics have been under fire for a long time for not addressing the issue. Good to see that something positive is happening.

Spelling buddy says: Priest ;)

And you are correct. The focus is made away from Rome so as to keep the heat off the Papal seat.

And don't forget Ireland...

Catholicism has taken a big nose dive since their own scandal a few years ago.

Like in any profession or career

there are always bad apples in the bunch that discredits the ones that are doing their job the right way. I believe that the abuse of such power is world wide also however the dirty laundry is being hung up to dry in the United States right now. It is an issue that the Church has to resolve so it will not continue or happen again. One opinion on this topic and nothing more.

Peace,

Keeping the heat of the Papal seat?

Priests in Catholic Europe, particularly Ireland, as well as Latin America, have been under fire for ages. As ever, the Pope is slow to admit their is a problem.

But the American Church has been slow to respond to public pressure. They have just moved priests around to avoid controversy. Until now, it seems. Hope things get better.

Priests in America are more vulnerable because they live in America.

Every bad seed in America needs to be exposed so that p_p_man has something to talk about.

Seriously, America is in a position of power and as such is open to speculation. Standards for "behavior" are higher with America than other countries, just because it is America.

*I went back and edited.

You made my point. Priests elsewhere in the countries other than Rome have been getting hit. They draw the fire away from the source. Ultimately Rome is responsible for not having fixed this decades ago. No move is made without their consent that is why the American Church was slow to respond.

You can't tell me Rome doesn't know what has gone on. Can you imagine the information in the miles and miles of catacombs under the Vatican. My gawd I would love to spend time there just sifting through the treasure they have of information. They have gathered all sorts of information over the ages and it is all stored there. I would be very interested to see what is there.

I don't know if the US is held to a higher standard or just that there is more of a focus on the US as they are a powerful country and the news coverage here is outrageous. The coverage the US gets on something like this is akin to the statement "Oh the mighty have fallen"...everyone wants to see a smug person knocked off their pedestal...why not an entire country.

but what are the NUNS up to..
there has got to be more of them, than priest's

The same reason you always focus entirely on America - because you're Americans, silly ;)

(And Rome hasn't emerged unscathed by any stretch of the imagination. There's been a lot of heat on the Vatican, and the Pope has even been pressured into apologizing for the church's role - a rather vague and half-assed apology mind you, but it's a lot more than one usually sees from the higher-ups)
