'A proposal to build a theme park that would feature a life-size replica of Noah’s Ark has set off a controversy in Kentucky that is worth watching. Within days, the controversy had spread to the pages of The New York Times and USA Today.

So, who’s afraid of Noah’s Ark? Lots of folks, it seems, but the editors of the state’s two largest newspapers, in particular.

The “Ark Encounter” is a major project to be undertaken by a partnership led by Answers in Genesis, the group that built the Creation Museum in northern Kentucky — an attraction that has now recorded over a million visitors by some reports. The attraction, also to be built in Kentucky, is to include live animals and a 100-ft tower of Babel.

The partnership has applied for incentives under the Kentucky Tourism Development Act, and Governor Steve Beshear announced plans for the park at a news conference in the Kentucky State Capitol.

Then . . . the deluge.

The Courier-Journal of Louisville editorialized that the project would amount to “creationist tourism” that would embarrass the state by featuring “a fundamentalist view resting on biblical inerrancy [that] indirectly promotes a religious dogma.”

The editors asked, “Why stop with creationism? How about a Flat-Earth Museum? Or one devoted to the notion that the sun revolves around the Earth?”'

So, the Creationist Museum isn't in Cincinnati after all, but across the river in Kentucky. It figures. (Just kidding, Kentuckians. I love me some Kentuckians) :)

Seriously, though, this could get interesting. It's become a separation of church and state argument. Whodathunkit?

Anyone have any idea what point he's making?

It's not that complicated, really, but I'll explain for you. There was a previous thread about this proposed ark attraction. I thought this was an interesting development. The fact you didn't ain't my problem.

But the Ark is history. We should have an attraction. Teach kids right.

it's unlikely an Atheist Theme Park would be predicted to generate 250M annually in the Bluegrass State

It's a semi-free country.

If Answers in Genesis has the finances to build some silly "Ark Park" and there are dolts ready to spend their money visit the site....as long as local ordinances are followed and zoning allows it then let these folks waste their money.

Kentucky needs to expand tourism beyond the incest marriage industry and horse racing into a broader appeal to travelers.

I really hope they build it. And then get two of every animal on Earth and try and fit them inside. When they run out of space with 99.999% of the animals outside it might convince a few retards they're being fed bullshit. But I doubt it.

The entity seeking to build this monument to the mythical ark should utilize all private and public funds available for this initiative.

However, they should ask Steve Carell for help. The man's ark-building acumen is proven.

His ark was impressive, I must admit.

They already do. They're called concert halls, theatres, sports arenas, museums...
Help me out here.

In what way are concert halls, theatres, sports arenas and museums atheistic? At best they could be accused of being agnostic, but even that is a stretch since they don't typically address spiritual issues at all.

I know it was just a throwaway snark line, but still.......

Atheism isn't a philosophy. It's not "anti" anything, and has no dogma of its own to forward. I just means "without theism".

If it has a figurehead of the Virgin Mary on its prow, I might plan to visit it. Especially if her tits are hanging out.

What would a private stall cost in this proposed theme park?

Let's say it's $20 a half hour. I could easily go through 200 bucks in a day.

That wouldn't be authentic. The Virgin Mary wasn't even born when the ark was constructed, you foolish person.

In Kentucky you have UK & U of L basketball , Churchill Downs , Kentucky Motor Speedway , Renfro Valley Barn Dance , Mammoth Cave , and a smattering of small concert halls that the tops acts usually pass on to play in Cincinnati instead .
One attraction = 250 M ...that ain't hay

I don’t think that's the way some theist see it though, you’re either with’em or your against’em.

I think you, me and a few other share the same fate.

“And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are, and shall be tormented day and night for ever and ever”.

Seems a bit harsh but there you have it.

Woof!

Yeah. No.
