I saw the thread about those of us/you who *are* paid to write porn - how many of you would like to be? Who wouldn't want to be?

I'm torn. I've had offers, and every time it looks like something might go through I fudge it up. Maybe I'm spoiling my chances on purpose...while writing erotica for fun is great, I feel like if I profited from it...I don't know...it might make me feel dirty. But on the other hand MONEY MONEY MONEY!!

I think you're very fortunate to have had offers. That may even be enough, just to know someone thinks your work is worth publishing. I hear it doesn't pay at all well anyway.
Nice one Chicky!

Me, me, I do, I do!

I just wanna get paid for writing ANYTHING!

Sabledrake, clawing frantically for publication credits

I do. Love to get paid for writing anything. Even if it was only a $10 cheque that it wouldn't be worth my while changing into real money.

The Earl

Dear Earl;

I'll send you a 10 check if you email ALL the Talkie the Toaster stories PLUS three new ones!

:D

But ya, I'd like to be paid. If I write enough here, get enough help in becoming better.........maybe I'll become brave enough to try. It's not the rejection slips that hurt, it's fear of actually doing it, I guess.

I know. I'm odd. But.......what would I do if I actually got something published? Freak out majorly I think. But I'm going to try. A friend and I that I met here are thinking of doing some work together.

It's hard for me to believe that anyone pays for stories when there are literally hundreds of good to average ones available to be stolen from sites like Literotica. I am told that stories I have posted here are to be found scattered throughout the net, sometimes under a new name and author, sometimes blatantly presented under the original title and 'by Jigs'.

As a practical matter, there is not a damn thing I can do about even though for many years I was a trial lawyer with some practical experience in intellectual properties litigation. Copyright, trademark, and patent infringement cases are generally very expensive, and go on for damn near forever. Enforcement is pretty much feasible only for large commercial entities regarding products that can be proven to be commercially valuable. A classic example of enforcement difficulties is the as yet only partially successful, but terribly expensive, campaign the music industry has been carrying on trying to protect its copyrights.

When it comes to the Internet, the litigation and collection problems are even more difficult than usual. First the offender must be located. That usually requires a series of expensive and time-consuming subpoenas and depositions. Once you have the name and address the likelihood is he/she/it is a shell corporation or otherwise uncollectible even if your verdict was for a million dollars.

Beyond all that, for us amateurs the measure of our damages is likely to be "a reasonable royalty". Since we have no track record of receiving any royalties at all, and our work is available for free on Literotica, that measure is most likely going to produce the $10 that someone mentioned earlier in this thread. Lots of luck finding a lawyer who will work for a percentage of $10, even if the Easter Bunny was willing to pay the "costs" which I would guess could run anywhere from $10,000 to $250,000.

Like I said, I doubt that anybody is going to pay for what they can steal for nothing.

:(

This is a different kind of "being paid for writing" than I was thinking. You definitely deserve to be compensated for what has been stolen...but that's one of the dangers of posting on Lit. (says the girl who so far has had nothing posted without permission) - the closest thing I got to this was a site I joined when it was free. I submitted a bunch of my erotica to it, and then the webmaster decided to charge people to visit. I couldn't afford it and I asked for my stuff to be taken down, but he wouldn't take it off. that sucked.

I can imagine a story where Talkie Toaster shoots baguettes into a girls oven... and when he's coming, he ejects breadcrumbs...

Wow, look at that, time for dinner...

Fortunately for us, the adult webmaster industry has taken the stance that content should be legally licensed. Yes there are dickweeds who will steal what they can, but they can and will be blacklisted if found out. A ton of link lists won't have anything to do with them.

As a webmaster who has just about given up on his site, I can tell you it's pretty hard to find good stories at decent prices. You either pay some big bucks to join a "library" or you buy one of the five stories a content provider has for sale.

Hmmm, maybe Literotica can start offering our stories for sale? Even if they take 50% of the sale price, $1 per sale is still better than the $0 we make now, plus Literotica continues on as it has before.

Sorry about getting off topic here, but what a concept that would be. Webmasters could read a story first and then buy a license if they like it. Would that be a different kettle of fish for you, Chicklet? You'd still be writing stories for the same people, but with licensing it's more like the webmasters are saying "cool story, can I borrow that?" as opposed to an outright sale.

Ars Gratia Artis

Would I wish to be paid for writing? Well! I've never been so insulted!

My art is for its own sake, and filthy money would sully its purity.

Hahahahahahahahahahahha

Amazing! MathGirl and I agree on a topic! And, I don't even like math. Well, I do like girls, though, so do you think that could be it?:D

Well I have never been paid to write. All my other creative pursuits are things I do with that voice in my head saying over and over each time I start some new project,
'will it sell?'
Now that I am rediscovering my love of writing erotica I would like the offer only if I could turn it down. It is the one thing I can sit down in the evenings to do without that little annoying voice. Until this subject came up it never even occured to me that someone would pay for my stories. This is just for me and of course all of you are invited to read them as well. The wonderful feedback note I received last night was payment enough for my soul. :)

Getting paid for writing porn... well, some of us ARE, eh, Chicklet?;)

(Yes, I AM gonna keep boasting about the Survivor thing the entire year.)

I would love to say I am one day getting paid for this but I can't even win a monthly contest lol. So i will suffer My pathetic strivings to become paid one day and submit to My heart's content here. Besides at least Laurel doesn't email (as an editor) and say you suck don't ever submit here again.

yeah, that would suck.

Hi you purists - it might stick in your gullets - but I like it when money $s are credited to my Pay Pal account.

Now for those of you who do not want to be artists slaving away over the keyboard in a garret :p . Those people who are willing to give up writing only what you want to write and are willing to write to a brief, I can only say keep trying. No I cannot offer you work - all I can say is the work is there, if you keep looking. One useful website to look at the resources for writers is The Erotic Readers Association http://www.erotica-readers.com

What am I doing writing here - taking a break in the midst of churning out another 5000 word story.

Keep on trying if you want to take the filthy Lucre - and stick to your principles if you dont.
