Who is BlackShanglan and why is he here?

God bless you and the star you were born under. What would I have to pay you to sway the truth of this tryst in certain particularly delicious directions?

Any amount, I accept Paypal.

Of course, I couldn't possibly write well enough to do it justice. May I have a demonstration for, you know, inspiration purposes?

I wondered when someone would get 'round to Standish O'Grady! Clearly you are a tortoise of mettle. That particular line has for some reason always spoken to me ... I, ah, can't imagine why. ;)

I've had a weak spot for O'Grady ever since I read The Coming of Cuculain in a wonderful old edition whose plates depicted the "water dog" (a typical way of saying "otter" in Irish legend) as a giant aquatic terrier. Marvellous. :D

Oh, I would love to see that. Hilarious.

Yeah, I stumbled upon O'Grady in a rather roundabout way. I loved the affectionate parody of the bardic style in At Swim-Two-Birds so much that I wanted to seek out the real thing. Or, rather, a distillation of the real thing.

I just love to walk in the woods and come upon such a fine Horse, and exceptional Turtle.

Greetings, gentlemen!

Well, hello there!

I just returned from the woods, myself. A gorgeous morning to be out and about.

Now, however, it's time to return my nose to the grindstone.

I've been meaning to read that for years - one of those things that somehow is both desired and yet never quite acted upon. Your description might just give me the kick I need.

In the non-parodic side, I think Thomas Kinsella's The Tain a very nice bit of work. It has a wonderfully raw, rough feel to it.

Damn, it didn't half get highbrow in here after Ishtard left.

Throbbs, that's brilliant! :D Thanks for the link - I hadn't read that thread.
Thank you. I wouldn't have expected you to stumble into that thread.

Your AV was the bronzest I knew... combined with all the parrying and thrusting I witnessed here... I was inspired.

I just love to walk in the woods and come ON such a fine, exceptionally busty and voluptuous body such as yours.

...err, that is, if we were both naked and in the midst of a horny miasma that would allow for such libertine actions, not to mention conveniently coming across a clean, flat, sun-warmed rock formation in a clearing which to lay your body upon while I indulge in onanistic motions above it.

:D

ASTB is utterly mad. Pay no mind to the declarations that it is a "brilliant modernist blah blah blah..." It's just great fun, rife with hijinks. Dylan Thomas put it best, in my favorite review of any book, ever: "This is just the book to give your sister – if she's a loud, dirty, boozy girl."

See, now, I've been running across recommendations for Kinsella all over the place, and have been meaning to read The Tain. You've just provided the coup de grace. Impetus for impetus, tit for tat.

well i've not read either but i have some cucumber for the tortoise and some hay for the horse if anyone fancies it...

apart from that there's just Hula Hoops (orginal or BBQ beef)

You do it constantly.

Have you ever heard the John Lennon song, "Woman is the Nigger of the World"?

In that sense, you've made yourself the nigger of the General Board.

And it has nothing to do with whether you're black, which nobody can know, but with how you post.

This thread also features Pookie defending people who spew racial slurs.

And you wonder why I could care less about Holy Devil's behavior?

I show him the same "condemnation" that you showed the racists in this thread.

You've obviously never heard the song or got the reference. Did the "in that sense" bit not penetrate the reality barrier? Or, as usual, did you just ignore something you didn't understand?

Funny thread, btw. Ish's meltdowns are always funny and Shang could take people apart while smiling cherubically.

Pookie's response to people hurling racial slurs was worse than my response to Holy Devil. Maybe I should tell anyone complaining about Holy Devil to grow a thicker skin. I mean, it was okay when Pookie did it. :D

Or is that right only reserved for white people?

Shanglan. Damn. What a wonderfully gifted person.

I miss him, I miss him a great deal.
