who besides me grew up with 1 parent?

Both parents were in my home, but it only felt like one. My dad was always working or sleeping... as a result, I'm very close w/ my mom.

My kids only have me..

Yes just Mum.

What made it a bit more different is that she was 40 years old when she had me. Very unusual way back in the early 1940s so even though she was always Mum as I grew older I naturally noticed the difference between her and my friends' mothers. And when I reached my teens we not only had a single generation gap to deal with but a double one. We both came from different worlds.

When I was very young (under 10-11) I remember she used to protect me like a ferocious lioness. No matter whether the trouble I was in was my fault or not she would stand in front of me and confront the accuser in no uncertain terms.

A very formidable lady was my Mum.

She died in March this year aged 98.

:D

Just one. The best Mother in the world.

She thinks it's awful. I'm thankful.

Father is scraping fungus off a rock, last I heard.

From the time I was 2 untill I was 14 It was just me and my mother. My biological father was very abuseive, and my mother kicked him out when she found out he was lashing out at me too. then in 1997 my mother finally remarried to the nicest sweetest man I have ever met.. I still can't call him "dad" though, because I have never really had a father figure in my life. My mom did a kick ass job with me though. She even taught me how to play baseball, and spit.

Ditto. And it still amazes me how she seems to have grown wiser as I've grown older. I sincerely regret she didn't live long enough for me to let her know. She died during my first year in the Navy (almost 40 years ago).
