I have yet to actually publish a story on here although I’ve written several over the years. I guess it’s my Catholic upbringing or something but I haven’t gotten over the hurdle of sharing them yet.
Anyway, I was curious as to what those of you who write erotica actually are like. The very first thing that pops into my head is some guys that has nothing else going for him getting his sexual itch scratched by writing stories. But I know that not necessarily the case because I’m a mid 60s guy, married over 40 years and now the caretaker of my wife. I’m what I would call your normal guy that enjoys being outside, sports, walking in the woods, mountain biking, motorcycles, taking care of our property and other things. We live out in the country and for all purposes am your “normal” neighbor.
But I do have a pretty vivid imagination and enjoy making up stories in my head and, when I have time, write them down. I can appreciate those of you who do this and the time invested in your writing.
So, I was just wondering what your lives are like for those that enjoy doing this. Thanks.

I too, lead a fairly average life. I'm married with a family. And I've always enjoyed writing. Though, I have to admit I was a little anxious about submitting my first story on Lit. But I think you'll find that once you've submitted your first story, and you get some feedback that you'll get the bug and keep going.
Looking forward to reading something from you. And I'll be sure to give you some feedback.

The Original CSI is the best.

CSI: Miami is straight up trash can juice. Well other than Emily Procter
It's all trash, but very much Original > Miami > NY. The Vegas guys can act occasionally, Miami has a bit of eye candy plus Caruso's sunglasses (have a shot when he pokes them), NY forgot the script and the acting.

Fun trashy telly has you shouting abuse at the characters. Bad trashy telly is just boring.

I don’t think that there is a stereotypical Lit author. There tend to be all sorts. More diverse than the non-writing members IMO.

Based on the wholly unscientific poll of people who have PMed me since I joined, the average Lit member (as distinct to writer) is a bit like you. A 50 or 60 something male. Most likely white. Either with a wish to fulfil some unfulfilled desire, or a life problem (bereavement, incapacitated partner, sexless marriage etc. etc.) that leads them to try to find comfort here. I’m not dissing this demographic, I have friends among this group. But that’s what I see.

I’m certainly not judging.. I used to seek comfort here for a bit as well. People in glass houses…

Then there are the out and out deviants . I have friends among them as well.

As I say it’s not scientific.

I went there too.

In answer to OP's question: most of my stories are less about fantasy fulfillment than about processing stuff that's happened in my life, or that I've been thinking about for other reasons.

...I was curious as to what those of you who write erotica actually are like. ...

My suggestion is to start with TxRad's "Coffee Shop" thread. Lots to read, some deep, some inane, but it seems to be good cross-section of the folks on here, mostly little amusing anecdotes or interesting factoids.

Then there are other threads to explore that get deeper into personalities and what drives them. My three favorites are "Happiest", "Saddest", and a recent down and dirty confessional from some of us (yours truly included), "Honest Opinion".

That's enough to get acquainted with the greater collective and will: 1) amuse you; 2) shock you; or 3) send you out of the room screaming "What have I gotten myself into?!"

Enjoy.

I’m a professional writer and I have been so for more that 60 years. For the first 50 or so of those years I led a pretty interesting life. Then, eleven years ago, I was told that I had months to live. Against all predictions, I’m still here – although not much of me works any more. But my brain still ticks over. And my fingers still sort of work. I may still be here tomorrow. Who knows? :)

I'm not who I once was but I'm better than I ever was.

And yes, I am a dirty old man who will work on the age for as long as possible.

I'm also in my 60s, so I empathize. For me, it's a chance to express my imagination, to sow the wild oats I never had the chance to sow in my younger days. The great thing about Literotica is you can publish anonymously. If you fail, no one will know. If readers like your stuff, enjoy the ego boost.

In short, publish and be damn! ;)

(Says I, trying to convince myself to post one story)

Anyway, replying to the OP, as my bio says -

"Civil engineer by trade. Usually write technical documents. Have all these thoughts rattling around in my head that need to get out. Mostly harmless..."

Outside of that, married no kids, oldest in my karate dojo but one of the lower ranks, have a Triumph Herald convertible I try to use when it's not raining.

There's nothing in the above I haven't mentioned before, but some writers prefer to keep a very tight hold on their privacy.

Thanks everyone. I’ll try to find the time to check out those other threads that were mentioned. I don’t know about you folks but the stories in my head take an awful long time to get onto paper in a way that I’m satisfied with.

I would be happy to give an answer but am too busy scratching my sexual itches while trying to forget how bad all the CSI shows were. Didn't The Who have a song called Who Are You?

I've never been able to figure out what's going on in that thread enough to figure out where to jump in.
