Hope you’re all doing well! I have a bit of a funny story (or, well, maybe it's not that funny and more just me being oblivious). Anyway, someone recently asked me how I got into writing- hotwife genre.

And you know what? I completely blanked. I mean, I've been writing it for a while now, and I really enjoy it. I just have lot of stuff I can write in this space.

It made me wonder, though. How do writers find their niches? Is it something that just organically happens? Or is there a specific moment, a story, a character, an experience that just clicks and sparks a whole new world of writing for you?

But now I’m super curious about how everyone else got here (or…got anywhere, in terms of their writing genres!).

Was there a specific event or a spark of inspiration? Or did it develop gradually?

I'm genuinely curious to hear how others found their way into writing the kinds of stories they write. Share your stories! Please!

My approach is that I write what I'd like to read. That began with Fantasy here on Lit. But then I wrote a slightly creepy Voyeur story, and it got me thinking about the mindset of a voyeur: the anticipation of getting to see something, the nervousness about being caught, the sense of connection with the person they're watching. So I decided to write a less creepy one, and then another, and so on, exploring all the various possibilities. Now voyeurism seems to come up in most of my stories, in one form or another.

Oh, and I like writing about demons. Sometimes in combination with voyeurism.

I'm not sure what my genre is, I've never gone looking for one. I write whatever stories come to mind, then I try and decide what category they belong in.

Whatever turns me on to write. Whatever i find myself fantasizing about. I write non-con because those themes intrigue and arouse me. I write sci-fi because 1) I *read* sci-fi, and 2) Sci-fi/fantasy provide plenty of opportunities for imaginative depictions of sex.

I originally resolved to write at least one story in each category. When I got up to 17 or 18, I lost interest in the resolution and found some suited me better than most. I still wander about on occasion, but generally stick to the ones I have the most fun writing.

I think I've been a writer since I was a kid, but I never took it seriously until a nasty breakup when I was 19 years old. However, I got into writing erotica six years ago, and I started writing a few things for a girlfriend that I had at the time (I still keep in contact with her), and I never stopped.

Real life influences the plot, so part of the things that I'm going through bleed into the page. That's how I started writing cyberpunk, neon noir, and fantasy when I started, and that's how I'm writing nowdays, especially since I'm going through... very interesting times. Marquis de Sade and Anaïs Nin are definitely helping me to stay sane, but I digress.

As for writing about transgender girls and cam girls, well... the former is because I am one, and the latter is because I used to be one. As for teachers and schoolgirls, I happen to be a teacher for my day job. Like I said, real life influences the plot.

I didn't start writing and publishing erotic stories until the end of 2016. By that time I'd spent almost 20 years reading online erotica, and at one time or another I sampled just about everything. I found I gravitated toward certain subjects, like hot wives, incest, female exhibitionism, and BDSM, so by the time I decided to write I knew exactly what interested me and motivated me.Doro

I think a general interest in porn is behind my more "common" genes like milf, group, and the cuck genre after stumbling on a few videos.

BDSM is a different story and I always hold that people in that lifestyle, top and bottom are somehow hardwired for it at a young age, and its a matter of time before it manifests.

When I was very young I had weird dreams about a girl in school being tied to a cafeteria table while I tickled her feet and she begged me to stop. At that age there is a legit question of where the hell had that come from? I hadn't even seen a dirty magazine yet. I've always left it at "born this way."

a Bit later a friend and I find his older brother's stash of skin mags and we're looking and of course I'm looking at what any boy would look at, but my eyes kept going to the model's feet. Again...why, where, huh? Whatever I have a foot fetish to this day.

Taboo was a mix of fiction and reality. The fiction aspect came when I found an old coverless paperback in an attic in an empty house me and some friends had broken into. I shoved it in my pocket and later that night looked at it. Turns out it was one of those lurid erotic story books written by "anonymous" and incest themed. The first three stories, which were way over my head, were brother sister. I found it excited me

Not long after, and living in a foster home, a girl a little older than me and also in their foster care got very close with me, we'd call each other brother and sister even though we knew we really weren't, but we liked the idea of having a sibling who was nice to them. Flash forward a year and she seduced me, complete with calling herself my sister as we did it, and some lines I would years later feature in stories because they always stuck with me.

Hence, the incest fetish was born.

Natural causes? Broken? Meh, what difference does it make now?

I was inspired by the stories of another Lit author who sadly is no longer with us, you can find her profile here. But as for why NC/R pulled me in and had its way with my imagination so that it became my niche genre, that's hard to explain in such a brief post.

I wrote plays for our drama department in high school (several are still performed on a regular basis). In college, I collaborated with a few other students on screenplays for independent films (nothing notable these days). Then, life took over as my career took me into more technical fields, I became more involved in supporting a family, and I found myself traveling extensively for work.

When I was asked to help organize a twenty-year reunion I was still traveling too much to contribute, but it ignited my imagination with an idea about a couple who got separated during high school and how they could get reunited a decade later. It took me four years to complete it among all my other obligations, but when I submitted my first story here it won a monthly prize. I also made myself available for contract writing assignments that I had been refusing to that point.

My first novel-length story published here had no graphic sex in it and I didn't submit anything remotely erotic for five more years. Since then, I have dabbled in different genres when I wanted a new challenge, but non-erotic story telling remains my forte, both here and in mainstream publishing.

My breakdown on genres published here includes:

6 Celebrity/Fan Fiction
1 Erotic Couplings
1 How To
5 Incest/Taboo
2 Loving Wives
10 Novels/Novellas
3 Romance

The "genre" question is an interesting one for me. In terms of erotica, I've always written - and probably always will write - in the BDSM genre; it's just pretty core to who I am in real life and as a writer here.

But I kind of have an ongoing thing where I try to write a series in each of the old-school campy genres - high fantasy, noir, western. That came about because I've always had a soft spot for genre and tropes done well - a little self-aware, maybe a bit over the top, kind of a send-up here or there. I thought it writing erotica set in each of those genres would be fun, and it really has been. It has also kind of pushed me to keep things fresh and different, and think about what each genre demands, and how that interacts specifically with the kink elements of the story.

My interest is gender role reversal. It's just something i fantasize about. The idea first came when I saw femdom porn with crossdressers getting pegged. But then I thought since the woman is in the driver's seat why can't she actually play the role of the man and actually dress and act like one.

I don't exactly like writing femdom type stories if you know what I mean. None of that humiliation stuff is exactly for me I guess which is why in terms of visual porn it's not something that interests me anymore either. I like it to be more like an everyday romance kind of thing. Because in my mind why does crossdressing and pegging only have to be associated with domination and submission. Why can't it be about two people in love who are exploring the kinky sides of themselves?

Though I haven't really written anything in a while that is my niche and my fantasy. So that's what I prefer to write about.

I didn't look for it. I developed my own writing style after years of practice and figuring out what influenced me more than anything.

In erotica, I like emotional drive of characters with motivations, goals and attractions to one another. Film noir with it's sleazy detectives and gangster movies were a huge base of inspiration for me, along with my passion for music. It's easy to get inspiration when you have a strong connection to something you love.

My biggest advice is to not care what other people think of your writing. If you do what you want, and are able to build your own niche around it, then you end up with something no one else has and it can't be taken away. Ignore the anonymous trolls leaving comments, and ignore people who pretend they're offended at the existence of your story that they decided to click and read. If you do something long enough and at a high level, fans will come. They'll take notice of what you do and come along.

It's definitely not *my* niche - there's lots of other, superior writers occupying it - but I found it by reading. Until I came across Literotica, it hadn't dawned on me how emotionally affected I got by stories about women realising their (lesbian/bi) sexuality for the first time.

I'm certain I HAD read and enjoyed other stories like that before elsewhere (Sarah Waters and Freya Markse spring to mind) but I figured I had enjoyed them so much because they were well written. Which they are.

However, it wasn't until I read a huge number of such stories on Literotica by such brilliant writers as OneHitWanda, Bi_Cathy, JCMcNeilly, BrokenSpokes, CreatingKate, careythomas, Salish, Salandar, Limentina et al, that I discovered how much I adored such stories. Some of them turn me on, true, but actually its the journey of self-discovery that gives me the real dopamine hit. Getting whacked by such a volume of high-caliber writing really made that clear to me. (As such, I'm not much interested by stories where the protagonists are both "out" Lesbians who have been aware of their sexual identity for some time.) I guess it's just a moment that people only get to have once - if at all - in their lives, and reading these helps recapture/experience that moment once more.

So that's what I write: stories about women realising for the first time that they are attracted to other women, and the consequences of that moment. In order to not keep writing the same thing, I've been exploring the different barriers - cultural, social, physical, mental - that prevent or delay women from coming to such a realisation, and make it harder for them to act upon it once they do.

I just write what I know.
I write what I wish I knew.

Yeah. Those. My beloved of 37 years and I had and have a very adventurous love live. She was the one who brought swinging into our relationship, from experiences with her first husband.

Our first date was at a nudist park, though we didn't touch each other (E&V). On our first road trip together, our first overnight stop was at her friend's place (a former co-worker). He and I double-teamed her (LW). Honeymoon was at a swinger hotel; I can't recall whether there were two or three couples playing musical beds with us (GS). She likes to flash trains (E&V), and play pool in bars while wearing no panties under short skirts (more E&V). And she's still a stunner with a remarkable figure at her age (Mature). Recently, she has enjoyed the company of three boyfriends, albeit separately (LW); those relationships each ended last year for entirely different reasons: health, jealousy (his!), and distance.

So there you have it. My genres are extensions of what I have IRL experience with: E&V, LW, GS, and Mature. The "wish" part of my writing is blending all of that into chronicles of polyamorous collectives.

It started with me wanting to write a sequel to a story, contacting the author and getting their approval.

As it was in the group category and I found I enjoyed writing the different interpersonal relationships and opportunities that come with that I just fell into it.

The downside, not many comments. The upside, views and a fair few likes. I enjoy it when I get into that sweet, sweet spot.
