My son is 4...started pre-k today.
Just got him on the bus about 10 minutes ago and i honestly feel bad and excited at the same time.
He's been excited for school for hte past month, i've been getting him all hiped up about it. He didnt want to go to sleep last night and didnt want to wake up this morning lol Once i got him awake enough to tell him he had school today- boy was he up and running to get ready lol we sat out in my car for about 10 minutes, him getting flustered that the bus wasnt here yet and me biting my nails hoping it wouldnt come.
I feel really bad because i know he has no idea whats going on, he doesnt like not knowing how to do something or where to go. But excited because he'll learn, and boy does that kid love to learn.

Anyways, how did you feel when your kids started school? How did they feel and adapt? Were you full of emotion wanting to hug him and not let him on the bus like i wanted to? Or were you steady and ready to watch him start school?

I felt like that when both mine went off to school. Hell, I felt like that when my youngest got on the bus for her first year in Jr High yesterday. When my oldest went for his first day, I took him to school and when the little bugger wouldn't hug me goodbye in front of his friends, I watched him troupe through the doors and promptly burst into tears. I was in good company, my best friend (her son is the same age), was a bawling mess for the next three hours. I was ok in about 5 min.

We always had a tradition on the first day of school, I made a huge breakfast , and we had their grandparents, my best friend, and her son come over. We'd take a pic of them holding up a sign saying 1st day of school and the year. I have one for each year until last year when my husband and I separated. I miss that; my daughter mentioned it yesterday before she and my son left for the bus stop. (He, being a big 8th grader) even let her sit with him on the bus. Just one more sign of the apocalypse.

It's a big step to watch your baby walk away from you to do something big by himself.

that actually sounds like an excellent idea- i never would have thought of it.
I hope you dont mind but i'm gonna steal your idea :p :rose:

My reaction varied, depending in which child was starting school. I didn't really worry about my three youngest because they were ready to go to school and personality-wise, they're better equipped to handle school than my oldest is.

I cried when my oldest started kindergarten because I knew that she really didn't want to go--and I was 36 weeks pregnant and hormonal!! :D She just started middle school last week, and I still worry. Academics aren't an issue for her, but she doesn't do well in new situations and she doesn't have a ton of friends. I also worry about her now being on the bus with high-schoolers.

My youngest started kindergarten last week, and she's having a blast. I didn't cry, but my eyes did get a little watery.

Steal away--I love those pictures and it is amazing how much they change from year to year.

My youngest started jr. high. She doesn't make friends easily and I think she went into it thinking "oh great, a bigger bunch of bozos to make fun of me." I'm just praying she will find her group to fit into this year.

My daughter has three good friends, but only one friend is in one class, and that's band. They still eat lunch together, but I've gotta wonder if they'll grow apart at some point.

Actually, I'm hoping that she'll get closer to the kids in band. I have really happy memories from my days as a band geek! :D

surprized not many people have posted - i figured this would be a hot topic right off the bat. lol

I'm not sure how many of the HT semi-regulars have school-aged children.

Lol, don't think too many come to Lit to talk about their kids. ;)

What does your little one think of Pre-K? :)

he's absolutally loving it.
He has every friday off school. He woke up at 6am on the dot this morning and got mad at me because he didnt have school lol All i was thinking the entire time "6-7 years, this is gonna be reversed" lol He finally went back to sleep after about 30 minutes of waiting for the bus. He refused to listen to me, insisting he had school lol so i think he likes it lol

If he didn't want to go, you'd definitely know it! :D

My daughter started full day kindergarten. She loves it and is totally excited. I on the other hand am full of all the fears of what could happen. Also knowing that I can no longer protect her like I have is killing me but I know she must become her own person. ... Still sucks to see her go
