However, I find that in my own world, people tend to react differently to things said in a moment of anger and things cooly defended at length with a calm mind.

The former, of course, is a thing that happens to all humans and even some horses: we have standards we would like to meet, but we fall short of them. That is the nature of the human (and equine) condition. We err, and we try to do better. When we're past the moment of anger, we can look back and recognize that other ways of dealing with the issue would have been better, but we also recognize that anger can cloud a person's judgement, and so we forgive each other.

The latter is a different thing. It's not a matter of acknowledging that one hasn't been quite what one hopes to be; it's a matter of indicating that one never hopes to establish a higher moral standard for oneself than, say, "I do anything I've seen other people get away with."

I recognize now that you are in the latter category of people. I don't intend to try to shift you from it; I accept that that is the standard you've set for yourself. In the world I inhabit, people think less of people who behave that way, but perhaps we're simply from backgrounds too different to comprehend each other.

One of the several times ive been jumped in my neighborhood (being a white guy in 99% black neighborhood, in a 75% black city) I called one of the boys who jumped me a nigger, he can no longer hear out of his left ear, while I am perfectly fine.
