did something really nice for someone you didn't know?

Just bored and felt like staring a thread. Sue me.

Sorta, kinda, in a round about way, a bit of, and possibly my mantra. I try to do something nice for at least one person a day. habit from my grandfather. I saw him do many great things for strangers over my short time with him. I try to emulate that as much as possible.

Sometimes it is easy...sometimes it is rather hard. Sometimes just a helping hand...sometimes it requires major stuff. Afterwards I always feel good about it. I like the pass it on refrain too.

'What do I owe ya?'

'Just pass it on some day'

I hold the door for people at the store and be polite, but I don't think that holds for really nice. I mean how much did I have to change my day to say a few more words or to hold that door. Not very much. I should have worded my question better.
To me being really nice to someone it to go out of your way to aid another. Spend some time with someone to make things right. That sort of thing.

I know! I won't sue you. How's that?
You wouldn't get much anyway. LOL

I rarely hold the door in public for a stranger anymore...used to do that constantly...then in the space of several weeks I was attacked (by women) for doing so.

'I can get my own doors thank you'
'Next you will be hitting on me'
'what the hell? I don't need your help'

and the best one...
'What...need to perv on me or something?'

Sometimes I will do that still...but I am careful of how I do it, and don't go out of my way to do so.

I usually do go way out of my way to do the things I mentioned in my earlier post. (A couple of times WAAAAAAYYYYYY out of my way:) ) Never have regretted doing so, and I do not think I will.

Polite is polite. Helping some one...well that is where the difference comes in.

I don't look for a 'return' other than I hope that the person I help will pass it on.

Like two weeks ago I rolled a big joint to smoke in the park (after a jog).

Well, instead of smoking it, I gave it to this cute hippy chick who was camping there.

I knew she couldn't afford weed of her own, and no cute hippy chick should be without weed.

P.S. I wanted to get her number and stuff, but well, she lived in the park and didn't have a phone.

EDIT: Yeah, this story is totally made up...

(sue me) ;p

great story there nite...

Curious, you're right... Holding doors may be a nice thing, but not everyone likes it. Just as calling women Ma'am out of respect isn't always liked.

It's hard to be nice to strangers anymore, they seem to (a lot) think you want something from them in return, when in fact you are just being nice, PERIOD.

Last time we had snow (week ago?) I stopped on my way home from work at 3:30 am to help a guy with his truck in the snowy ditch on the side of the exit ramp. I have 4 wheel drive, so i tried to give him a push. Didn't work, so I went to Food Lion, got him 4 big old bags of kitty litter. That didn't help either, so I gave up. But he had a cop there, by then. I told him to forget about the $8 for kitty litter. Sheesh, who cares?

I shoveled out a bunch of stuff yesterday that doesn't really help me at all.. I pushed along with some other folks here at my apt. complex on stupid people's cars. Too much snow to be out w/out 4wd. But I understand cabin fever, so I pushed.
